Prior to airing

edit

Prior to airing, the only thing that can be relied upon as to the content of this episode is what was shown in the commercial after the previous episode (an event which is somewhat of a rarity for FOX). Everything else is about as reliable as a fanfic. ShutterBugTrekker (talk) 20:01, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hilton

edit

What happened to Paris and Perez Hilton? Weren't they suppose to be on this episode? --70.26.57.194 (talk) 01:47, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

They were, but for some reason, their parts were cut. We should wait until a site publishes information why their parts were cut. A (Reply!,Contribs!) 01:52, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

They are in the DVD version of the episodes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.161.80.192 (talk) 23:41, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Phone line

edit

As for Cultural References the scene where the woman calls the phone line, the voice on the phone seemed IDENTICAL to the voice of the computer in the movie "Idiocracy". Where the computer is asking for a name and confirmes the wrong name. Anyone else notice this?

No, they were just making fun of deaf people.

Image?

edit

Did anyone happen to upload an image of this episode to help portray the events of this episode? It just seems appropriate. Immblueversion (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Never mind, I got it. Immblueversion (talk) 19:44, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Record Store

edit

Would it be okay for someone to list all the albums that are shown in the record store? I only recognized In Utero by Nirvana. Supermartianpacmangirl (talk) 01:39, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I personally oppose that kind of trivial information. As it says at Wikipedia:Listcruft and Wikipedia:Fancruft, listing those is unnecessary and is "crufty" CTJF83Talk 03:02, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
In the picture accompanying this article, you can clearly see Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and R.E.M.'s "Automatic For The People", as well as portions of what appear to be Van Halen's "II", AC/DC's "Back In Black", and Led Zeppelin's debut album.Ringlerm (talk) 17:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I would support this inclusion, the other cultural references in this article are just as "fan-crufty". And, yes, I came here to point out the same thing: Nirvana's In Utero angel poster was on the wall. ScarianCall me Pat! 01:39, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
also a metallica sticker...just tossin it out there...♠♦Д narchistPig♥♣ (talk)
I'm in favor of pop culture references, but a laundry list of the posters in the background of a record store seems kind of excessive. Unless there's something out-of-place or humorous about the poster, it's simply standard decoration. You'd see posters of that manner on ANY tv show... there's nothing significant or interesting about it. You wouldn't include a list of all the furniture in Peter's house, would you?Wefrucar (talk) 10:20, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'd like the references, specially when I came here looking for the title of the Pink Floyd's album. But just wanted to reply that I think all of them would be significant as they have been choosen, I supposed, one by one.--Nauki (talk) 13:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

References to Other Episodes

edit

I see that other Family Guy articles here have a section that sites the references to past episodes. Seeing as how I added that section here, and someone deleted it, I am for some reason not "right" enough to write it, so can someone else? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.227.159.15 (talk) 03:27, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

We don't list references to other episodes, as it is fancruft. Other episodes may have it, but that is because I or another user, hasn't gone and removed it. CTJF83Talk 05:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excessive Plot tag

edit

I still think the Excessive Plot tag is appropriate for the article. The article only consists of 4 sentances that are not plot or rehash of plot under the umbrella of "cultural references" - so the episode steals a lot from other artistic materials - what is the significance? -- The Red Pen of Doom 16:07, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

How would the article look good for you? With only 2 sentences? Alecsdaniel (talk) 14:56, 12 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Isn't the point of Wikipedia to provide information? Maybe someone spots a cultural reference in an episode but can't quite place their finger on where it comes from - so they come to wikipedia to satiate their curiosity. Shouldn't they be able to find that info here? I don't understand what you want this article to contain otherwise - literary analysis?? Every single other family guy episode article contains the same sections, why limit this one's?Wefrucar (talk) 12:38, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Wefrucar, you are wrong. The point of Wikipedia is creating an encyclopedia. Considering our policy WP:V ("If no reliable, third-party sources can be found featuring significant coverage of a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article on it."), and the fact that there are no third party references substantively discussing the topic, this article should be merged into a "List of Family Guy episodes Season whatever"" -- The Red Pen of Doom 15:00, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Another reference?

edit

The scene where Stewie and Brian destroy the first Surfin' Bird record-is that a reference to anything? I just seems as though it is. Also, what's the name of the song that plays in that scene?58.107.138.121 (talk) 21:18, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it's a reference to the movie Office Space. The main characters in the movie all quit their job and they steal a printer and beat it up in a field, with the same music, and it's all down in slow motion. That is the reference. xElkux

Not quite. In Office Space Samir Nagheenanajar and Michael Bolton are let go (down sized) from Initech after they upload the virus that will skim off rounded paychecks. Peter Gibbons who was just promoted remarks that he stole something from the company while the three are driving away from work. Cut to the scene in the field. Michael has stolen the fax machine that has plagued the lives of Samir and Michael. Samir and Michael take turns destroying the machine while the Ghetto Boys song Die Mother*****r plays in the background. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.94.105.13 (talk) 19:07, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Author's plot interpretation

edit

The sentence "It turns out this store and several other record stores had already been visited by Brian and Stewie who had bought and destroyed all the copies." This is an interpretation. In the episode, Peter only says that he was told by the store owners that all the records were bought by "a dog and a baby". 87.63.228.190 (talk) 22:37, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

First.. Brian is the only dog in Family Guy besides his cousin Jasper shown to talk. Who else would it be?

Second. "The series was ultimately nominated for the award, the first time in 48 years an animated series was nominated for the same category.[7] The winners of the awards will be announced on September 12, 2009." Any update on that?

RE: First... thats fine analysis on your part, find a reliable published source and we can add it back to the article. -- The Red Pen of Doom 11:58, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reference to Annie Hall

edit

When George W. Bush speak about Jesus Christ and then Peter show him Jesus and Jesus said to him "You know nothing about my work" and after that Peter says "Wouldn't be great if like will like this?". I think this is a reference to the movie Annie Hall when Woody Allen and his girlfriend stand in the queue for a movie and Woody Allen hears someone speaking about the movie and get nervous because he thinks that man knows nothing about that director's work. And then the director appear and says to that man "You know nothing of my work" and Woody Allen says "Boy, if life were only like this!". http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/a/annie-hall-script-screenplay-woody.html

Production section

edit

Since this article has been nominated for GA, there needs to be an actual production section that relates to the episode's production. Ωphois 17:09, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cultural reference: Mission:Impossible

edit

The scene where Brian and Stewie steal the record from Peter contains a cultural reference I don't see mentioned on this page. Stewie lowers Brian into the bedroom from the air-conditioning vent just like Tom Cruise in the Mission:Impossible movie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.67.187.243 (talk) 04:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

GA Reassessment

edit
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:I Dream of Jesus/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

This article contains a lot of WP:OR, especially in the Cultural References section. Quotes like; "An STP sticker can be seen on the counter, which is probably a reference to the band Stone Temple Pilots" is an example of this. The article has had information added to it after it passing which is now considered not to be GA material, which is why I am doing a re-review. If a contributor wanted to do a cleanup of the article, all you will need to do is to look through the article, and if a sentence does not have a reference on the end of it, the find one. — M.Mario (T/C) 15:04, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

How lucky I recently watched this episode. Deleted all OR from the references section and added more with sources. Added more production and eliminated dead links. Any other concern? Pedro J. the rookie 17:03, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Looks great! I hope I dont sound to harsh, but the article was bad, and at that current state should have not been a GA. Im thinking, could an image be put in; a portrayl of Jesus may give a good rationale... But im not sure. Anyway, the article is still a GA! — M.Mario (T/C) 19:47, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
