Notability concerns

edit

I would like to point out that even more major media outlets have been covering this website, such as the The New York Times ([1]), The Huffington Post ([2]), Entertainment Weekly ([3]), CBS ([4]), and the Los Angeles Times ([5]). I've barely scratched the surface as far as notability is concerned. You cannot scream recentism every time something new comes out, like a website or something else like a song, book, or even video game. –MuZemike 19:52, 18 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agree. News coverage is ample enough to satisfy notability concerns.--PinkBull 05:22, 19 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I just got an e-mail from someone today telling me to go to the site, seems notable. I would plug more citations in the article. Also, the references supporting the Mel Gibson rant don't mention him and the one news report that may is archived. I see no reason that tag should be on the page aside from lack of references. --NortyNort (Holla) 12:02, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and removed the tag. There hasn't been any other discussion against notability, and the tagging seemed to be more drive-by than anything else. –MuZemike 05:07, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Inaccuracies

edit

Creator of the website in question here. I will not edit the article myself for obvious reasons, and I will not participate in notability discussion (after reading notability guide for websites, I think, a quick Google News search will help to establish it).

  • 100,000 hits. Actually, 100,000 unique visitors (as reported by Google Analytics). I'm not sure how to verify this, but the sourced article says "people" which is far from hits.
  • William Gibson also tried the site, which said his writing resembles that of Haruki Murakami and Vladimir Nabokov. Actually, there's no Murakami in the database :-) So, I think it should be pointed out that that's what Gibson said, not the website said.
  • Chestnykh created I Write Like "to be an educational thing and also to help people write better". The original idea was actually to help promote our software with meme/badges. However, this goal quickly transformed to "to be an educational thing and also to help people write better". Source: Q&A with me on The Awl

Anyway, mom, I'm on Wikipedia! --Dchestnykh (talk) 10:18, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, I changed the wording in the first point, removed Murakami's mention in the second one, and removed those sentences with regards to the third point; I swore I got quote and other sentence somewhere, but now I cannot find it. Relevant edit is here. Also, you may wish to contact The Guardian, if you feel it's worth it, about the inaccuracy about Murakami being in the database at that time. –MuZemike 05:07, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! The Murakami thing was actually tweeted by Gibson, that is why Guardian mentioned it. But it was a joke, that is why I thought it was worth mentioning that the site didn't actually give this answer. Anyway, thank you for taking care of the article. --Dchestnykh (talk) 23:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
