Capitalization of "president"

edit

"President" when referring to someone who served in that position in the past and when not followed by the name of that person should not be capitalized, per standard written English. User:Alifazal insists otherwise. What do others think? AfricaTanz (talk) 01:54, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

MOS:CAPS#Titles_of_people does make it pretty clear that Ali is correct in this case. It must be capitalised as it is a formal title. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:16, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I was merely complying with the MOS:CAPS#Titles_of_people guideline; which AfricaTanz fails to interpret and understand. You had boldly stated that you would also update Barack Obama's article according to your interpretation of the CAPS guideline; something that you have failed to do. You called it "Simple Grammar" and I quote "He was the president of the USA. Very soon, President Obama will be arriving." Ali Fazal (talk) 14:05, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I said no such thing. That's a complete and outrageous fabrication. I gave an example of correct grammar and said nothing about changing the Obama article. AfricaTanz (talk) 18:39, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
AfricaTanz, I misread your summary and made a wrong conclusion having read your other edit summaries on a similar topic: Warioba and Amour articles. It would've been helpful if your summary had an "e.g." to show that its an example. I'd like to say that your example is correct but I fail to understand why you still insist on using small caps. Yeah, you did misread it, for which I am not responsible. And I am not "insisting" on anything, despite your saying that here and many other places. You don't find it shocking that simple, everyday grammar does not apply to article titles and the articles themselves? Should I start saying everywhere that you are "insisting" on ignoring good grammar? Cheers. AfricaTanz (talk) 01:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
