can someone post the chart positions of if i were a boy in other countries, i have the link for brazilian singles chart (http://www.hot100brasil.com/chtsinglesb.html) IF I WERE A BOY debuted @ 68 there but i don't know how to edit the chart in the main page so please can someone do it for me, and if someone has the links of the performance of the song in other charts then please post it also thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xlaws001 (talkcontribs) 00:26, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No one should add the Brazil Hot 100. It's an unreliable chart produced by a fan, and any references to it will eventually get deleted. You can look at WP:Articles for deletion/Hot100Brasil.—Kww(talk) 00:31, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dutch vs. The Netherlands

edit

I'm not totally sure now, but, as far as I know, the dutch singles chart is that of the Netherlands, isn't it???

Beyonce is #1 now in the OFFICIAL singles chart in the Netherlands, so I cannot still understand that position in that other "dutch singles chart" which is not provided by any official source. Rub rb (talk) 23:57, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

They should be the same chart. It looks like acharts.us is a few days behind Billboard. Let's give it a few days and see if acharts.us catches up. If they don't, we should scratch the acharts sourced chart. The problem with the Billboard source is that it isn't generally useful, as it only lists the number one song.—Kww(talk) 00:26, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think they're two diffrent charts. We should remove the Netherland Charts because they're provided by Billboard and they're also not official in the Netherlands. --It's Flo (talk) 22:41, 14 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Netherlands Chart from Billboard is not the same as the Dutch Top 40. Billboard make charts for many countries, but the official in Netherlands is the Dutch top 40, it is the one they show as official, and I know it because I lived there for a while. We should not keep to Dutch charts, we should take of one. Same happen with Irish Chart, on Billboard they say Beyonce is #1, but in the Offcial by IRMA is #2, I think it is because Billboard give more importance to digital sales, and every country has they are own system--Albes29 (talk) 12:01, 16 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

shouldnt those charts be included in the song's chart history and succesion section

the song both reached number 1 on both charts —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.74.0 (talk) 04:31, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Those charts are omitted because they are non-notable charts with dubious methodology. See WP:BADCHARTS for further information and more charts. DiverseMentality 04:35, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Controversy section

edit

The story I read is a lot different. I'll find the source when I have the chance. The gist of it is that BC Jean and Toby Gad wrote the song, but it remained the property of Tony Gad, the producer, and her record company. Knowles' team approached Gad and he gave her the song. Whether or not BC Jean knew about it is between BC Jean and Tony Gad, not between Knowles and BC Jean. Knowles had all legal clearance to record the song (hence the lack of a lawsuit). The section as is does not present a balance of the situation, and clearly insinuate ethical accusations against Knowles, despite the fact that she may not have anything to do with the situation. Her manager and leagal team sought the rights to the song, and Knolwes was never personally involved with this. In all honesty, she may have thought that all was fine when she got the song to record. Orane (talk) 09:28, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

And PS: And to be honest, the neo conservative, Republican hypocrites at Fox news are a poor choice for sole source of a news story. Orane (talk) 09:32, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can no one expand on this? It doesn't do for there to be incorrect information on the page. Madithekilljoy (talk) 22:20, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hey mate. I cleaned this up a bit for you and removed the npov tag. Perhaps you are looking for [verification needed], [unreliable source?] or [citation needed] instead. Craig Pemberton (talk) 06:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Did Beyonce write the bit near the end?

edit

There're a few lines near the end that sound really out of place "If you thought you could come back // ... // you thought wrong". I'd hazard a guess that Beyonce (or her team) added them. If the information is available somewhere, maybe the article should mention the differences between the original version and the popular version. Gronky (talk) 18:06, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

No she did not. BC Jean's music only. Charmed36 (talk) 01:37, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
The article intro says the song was written by BC Jean and Toby Gad and the Background section of the article says the concept/words are by BC Jean. If you claim that BC Jean is only responsible for the music, then the article is very wrong. Are you sure? Gronky (talk) 13:22, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I meant that Knowles did not write the music and lyrics. Charmed36 (talk) 01:44, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Referencs 4, 7, 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 29, 30 (unreliable), 34, 35, 40 (wrong publisher, Spin is published by Spin Media LLC), 42, 49, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58 (all have wrong titles), 63 (there's no author), 71 (wrong formatting), 73 (presenter full name is Nihal Tyagi), 75 (caps), 76, 82, 94, 98, 99-104, 111-114, 127, 133-135 (why are they suddenly linking to Billboard charts?). So can you imagine what is the impact when you place a {{done}} template and the reviewer comes back and sees that half of them hasn't been done? — Legolas (talk2me) 12:13, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Background
  • Up-and-coming singer BC Jean, who wrote most of the song's lyrics, took inspiration in writing "If I Were a Boy" from a bad break-up --> Rephrase, An article should not start with such abstruct beginning. Fixed Jivesh boodhun (talk) 08:16, 24 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Jean and producer Toby Gad were strolling in Times Square when the former saw hot dogs that enticed her being peddled on the street. Jean was lamenting about how she was trying to stay away from the hot dogs and noted how if she were a boy, she could probably eat one without regrets.[1] That led to her musing on how if she were a boy, she would be much better than her ex. Gad asked Jean to repeat her sentiments into a recorder.[1] They returned to the studio and wrote the song in 15 minutes. Jean recorded her version of the song which was rejected by her record company.[1] --> I checked the source, and this is a blatant vilation of WP:OR, you cannot blindly copy an author's addition like this. Either rephrase it or I have to remove it. 'Fixed" Jivesh boodhun (talk) 08:16, 24 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fixed Jivesh boodhun (talk) 08:54, 24 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • According to Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly, "If I Were a Boy" soars with melodic swells and unwavering sentiments shown in its lyrics.[19] In the song, Knowles also wonders what it would be like to drink beer with guys, chase after girls,[20] and continues singing about how she would "chase after the girls" and "put [herself] first" and belts out in the chorus about how she would "be a better man" because she knows "how it hurts when [we] lose the one [we] wanted, [because] he [has] taken [us] for granted."[21 --> My god, couldn't you elongate it more? What? Haha, Fixed Jivesh boodhun (talk) 08:54, 24 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • The song features Knowles' delivering an excellent tormented performance[23] with controlled, emotional[22] and passionate vocals.[24] --> I say her voice in the song was pathetic and just shouting, would that work? I think a different article for Reba McEntire version should be made, and only its connections with this version should be kept here. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:36, 23 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Simple. My love for Beyonce is unconditional and it knows no boundaries. When you really love doing something for someone dear to you, it comes naturally; you do not take it as an obligation. By the way, i know i have already told you this but i want to repeat myself. I have never seen a 13 year-old boy being so polite and helpful. You talk so nicely and make sure never to hurt others. Some grown up here need to learn from you. You are an ideal example to follow. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 16:41, 24 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • "She felt that she had to attempt such a song taking into consideration that Aretha Franklin once said that "a great singer can sing anything and make it her own."" feels a bit awkward, but I'm not sure how to rephrase it.
  • "With unwavering sentiments, she delivers a tormented performance." according to who? I feel like that should be a quote.
  • "This motif was demonstrated by placing the album's ballads and ptempo tracks on separate discs." I assume that should be "uptempo", but I wasn't 100% sure.
  • "The music video for "If I Were a Boy" is both compelling and reflective of the independent woman stance that Knowles has exhibited throughout most of her career." again, according to who?
  • "Eventually, the song was included on Knowles' live album, I Am... World Tour as the 29th track." why eventually?
  • "During the afternoon, TMZ.com reported late Wednesday afternoon that the tape was a hoax" I'd just change that to "TMZ.com reported on <insert date> that the tape was a hoax"

Following up on my peer review and continuing my very slow copy edit, I am confused by the second paragraph of Release. It gives a date for release of the single in Europe (Nov. 7). Then it says a different version of the single was released in Germany (which is part of Europe) the same day. Then it gives an earlier date for digital single releases in France and the UK (which are also part of Europe), repeats Nov. 7 for the CD single releases there (which is repetitive but consistent), and then says CD single was released "in mainland Europe on November 18, 2008". This last bit contradicts the earlier statement that the single was released in Europe on Nov. 7, ignores the fact that France is part of both the "mainland" and Europe, and generally makes no sense with the rest of the paragraph. How about a rewrite something like:

Overseas the ballad was part of a two-track CD single, including "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" as the B-side [is this right? If there were two lead singles, would it be a double A side??], released on October 17, 2008 in Oceania.[33][34][35] In France and the United Kingdom, "If I Were a Boy" was released digitally on October 26, 2008,[43][44] and as a CD single on November 7, 2008.[45][46] A CD single version also went on sale in Germany on November 7,[39] and in the rest of Europe either that day,[36][37][38] or on November 18, 2008.[38] In Canada the single was released November 7,[40] and two different digital EPs were made available on February 3 and 10, 2009.[41][42] A Spanish version was translated by Rudy Pérez and mixed by Andrés Bermúdez at The Beach House in Miami.[47] "Si Yo Fuera un Chico (If I Were a Boy)" was included on the album as sold on iTunes Stores in Mexico and Spain,[48] where it was released as a stand-alone single on February 3, 2009.[49]

Thank you for this. It is definitely much better than what is currently there. Coming to "Single Ladies", they were dual lead singles on in the US. "Single Ladies" managed to chart everywhere only because of the dance craze associated with its video and those parodies. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 04:46, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
