Which "intermodal" meaning?

edit

I just disambigged the link to intermodal (which is a redirect to intermodal transport, a disambig page) as intermodal freight transport. Is this the correct meaning for this article or should it point to intermodal passenger transport? The text isn't exactly clear on that point. slambo 21:33, 1 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

With no objections or corrections in nearly two months, I'm assuming that I made the correct guess last time I came through disambiguating. Slambo (Speak) 18:39, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

pronunciation

edit

Is it really pronounced [iɫdəˈfɔns]? I have always said [iɫdəˈfons]. --SMP - talk (en) - talk (ca) 10:49, 17 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

I'm editing the article to give preference to the Catalan name—putting "Ildefons Cerdà" before "Ildefonso Cerdá" in the intro, and spelling further references to Cerdà in the article with the closed Catalan accent.

From searches on Google and in a few academic databases, it seems that most English-language sources now prefer the Catalan name; most sources I found using the Spanish variant were either old, or articles written in Spanish to begin with. The same is also true on other Wikipedias, which all seem to use the Catalan name (except the Spanish Wikipedia, of course). We can also see a similar approach in other contemporary examples—like Antoni Gaudí—and a Catalan preference in articles about the Eixample district and its neighborhoods.

However, given the polemic that any change of this nature is apt to cause, I'm happy to start a discussion, if other users think it warranted.

For reference, on Google, "Ildefons Cerdà" gets 102,000 results, whereas "Ildefonso Cerdá" yields 17,800 results, the first few pages of which appear to be almost entirely in Spanish.

This is going to be a tricky one, as more national libraries record him as Ildefonso Cerdá (see VIAF). Which is logical as his works were written in Spanish with "Ildefonso Cerdá" on the cover of his books (see here) and that's also how he signed his plans. --ELEKHHT 07:58, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Gah, I just reverted the edit to the accent before reading this, so my apologies for that. But I'll state here my main reason for the reversion--you can call him Ildefonso Cerdá, or Ildefons Cerdà, but using the Catalan first name and Spanish last name is wrong in both languages.
It's a bit the question with most Catalans from this period, since as you note, most were required to work/write/etc. in the Spanish language. Same issue with Gaudí, who often wrote his name "Antonio," but is mostly referred to as "Antoni" today (and on Wikipedia). acomas (talk) 12:50, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
