Kangaroo links here, due to the link to pouch
editKangaroo links here, due to the link to pouch. Is this intentional? --romanm (talk) 06:57, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- Probably not. I have transformed pouch into a disambiguation page to solve the problem. Schutz 14:40, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
added a substantial amount of information
editI've added a substantial amount of information about the surgical procedure and pouch behaviour... I plan to add more, and some illustrations. I have a pouch myself, and know a lot about the medical procedure from both the extensive literature available from the Red Lion group, directly from medics and surgeons at St. Mark's hospital, and from personal experience. All the information I upload can be found on St. Mark's website. --Jeeves (talk) 17:01, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Under Surgical Procedure the article says
Some surgeons prefer to perform a subtotal colectomy (removing all the colon except the rectum)
However under colectomy there is the sentence
When the entire colon is removed, this is called a total colectomy. If the rectum is also removed, it is a total proctocolectomy.
I am not sure which is right--4pleasure (talk) 21:09, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Crohn's Disease should be removed from the "reasons for pouch construction"
editCrohn's Disease should be removed from the "reasons for pouch construction" bulleted list. It is general practice in the medical community to not perform this procedure on patients with Crohn's Disease. Crohn's patients are sometimes misdiagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis due to similarities in the diseases. The procedure is performed as a result of the misdiagnosis and not as a treatment option for Crohn's Disease. Gibbs3 (talk) 03:29, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Wow. This important correction has been ignored for seven years so far. Aren't there any medically-trained editors around? David Spector (talk) 00:24, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Better handling of IPAA redirect possible?
editEntering the search term "IPAA", yields the page: The Intellectual Property Attache Act which is abbreviated IPAA.
The problem is that there is another page with the same abbreviation (IPAA) that is more popular, Ileo-anal_pouch. The abbreviation itself is widely used - a Google search of "ipaa surgery" yields 92,000 results.
Granted, there is a link provided on The Intellectual Property Attache Act page: "IPAA" redirects here. For surgery, see Ileo-anal pouch. But consider that The Intellectual Property Attache Act page gets about 2 hits a day while Ileal pouch-anal anastomosis gets about 250 per day.
Could the redirect page for IPAA be corrected to give priority to the more popular page? McortNGHH (talk) 10:59, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- I have changed the redirect to a DAB page. See talk over at IPAA. Little pob (talk) 13:38, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
