Neutrality issues

edit

This article suffers from neutrality issues:

  • As it is currently written, it is mostly expounding one side of the domestic debate of Malaysia, and fails to illuminate the significance, and other views, of the issue. An encyclopedia article should summarize the issue (i.e. government's stricter enforcement of immigration laws, its effect on domestic politics and foreign relations), while providing perspectives of those affected (e.g., views of governments and advocates of migrant workers, and their human rights).
  • As in other countries, in Malaysia there is more than one view to the immigration debate. Some question whether it is a problem at all. Others feel the only problem is the illegal status of workers, and so long-term workers should simply be legalized. Still others do not object to the policy, but are concerned with the standard of enforcement (using poorly trained volunteers, and inhumane detention e.g.). This article focuses on activities of the government, and does not represent the full spectrum of views in the debate.

Six years ago I posted pretty much the same reaction to this article on this talk page (but it seems a bot wiped the page). But now, though neutrality issues have not improved, I see references have improved. That helps, because some of the references contain the diversity of views the article lacks. So, to alleviate the neutrality issues, I will be incorporating those views into the article (and attempting to clean up the many problems in wording that make this article a very tough read). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zahzuhzaz (talkcontribs) 18:45, 30 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

History section too limited

edit

The history section only discusses refugees, omitting discussion of all other types of illegal immigration (most notably labour migration, which has been at the source of conflict with Indonesia, as well as political pressure from trade unions). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zahzuhzaz (talkcontribs) 15:47, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

A proper background to "Illegal immigration to Malaysia" requires a summary of immigration to Malaysia in general, since the unauthorized flows are often merely extensions of, or arise from, authorized flows. This is particulary true for labour migration. Ideally, this article should just provide a summary of the relevant points, and point to the article "Immigration to Malaysia" for details. Unfortunately, that article is not much more than a stub, with no historical perspective. So will be expanding that article, to support this one. --Zahzuhzaz (talk) 18:04, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Criticism section makes no sense

edit

It is not clear what is the subject of the Criticism section: criticism of what? As far as I can tell, the content of the section is merely a list of examples of reported problems in the area of illegal immigration (with far too much detail), with no underlying theme structuring it. The goal is to clean this up in the reorg but, in the meanwhile, the reader needs to be warned that the confusion lies with the contents, not the reader. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zahzuhzaz (talkcontribs) 16:36, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
