Laurentide ice sheet
editThere is some confusion about the Laurentide ice sheet. This article says that it occurred during the Illinoian, but the article on the Laurentide ice sheet says that it occurred later, after 100,000 years ago. Dudley Miles 19:36, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
The Laurentide ice sheet has formed during glacial epochs and disappeared during interglacial epochs multiple times during the Pleistocene.Paul H. (talk) 19:07, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Apologies and thanks for the clarification. I see I did not read it carefully enough and it says it last occurred after 100,000 years ago. Perhaps as you obviously know more about the subject you could amend the article to make clearer the periods it covered.
- The Pleistocene ice ages seem much the weakest area of science on Wikipedia I have come across. Riss glaciation redirects to Wolstonian Stage, and Heinrich event describes the Younger Dryas as a possible H0, but does not mention the Older Dryas and Oldest Dryas, even though H1 seems to be at the same time as the Oldest Dryas. I find the Dryas articles confusing as they switch between calibrated and uncalibrated dates, sometimes without making clear which is being used. Hopefully some day someone more expert than me will sort all this out. Dudley Miles 21:52, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Removed "Co2 glacial cycles 800k" Graph
editThe "Co2 glacial cycles 800k" graph was removed from this article because it uses stratigraphic terminology that is quite antiquated, obsolete, and completely meaningless. This is discussed in the talk section for that figure. Before it can be used, this graph needs to be revised to remove the discredited terminology and have it replaced with the correct terminology.
