I've changed this article from a redirect to fictional universe to an article more like List of fictional locations plus header, because Imaginary World is a more general term (witness significantly greater google hits rate) and closer to the cited non-English equivalents. I am also attempting to bring some organisation to the POV definitionalism which has traditionally surrounded this and related terms. — JEREMY 05:44, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

revisions

Ok, the revisions refocus matters on the concept going beyond fiction (agreed). Amongst other things, the old "techniques and concepts" secton which essentially dealt with fictional creations, has been transferred to "places" as the location of other discussion on this aspect, and the links have been disambiguated. Merge

The more I have trouble defining a "fantasy world", which is subject to opinion, the more I like redirecting them to imaginary world. Obviously, fantasy worlds are imaginary. As a section of Imaginary world, the reader can decide for themselves what a fantasy world is compared to others. Consider this a straw poll. Electrawn 01:20, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

This reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the fantasy world article. There is nothing subjective or opinion-based about the genre of fantasy, or that it takes place in specific kinds of imaginary worlds. Goldfritha 01:26, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

My problem is lack of formal definition. I don't think the fantasy genre itself has a proper definition, my goal is to redirect the reader here and let the reader sort it out whether a world is fantasy, a combination (like scifi+fantasy) or not. Electrawn 03:29, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

I believe there are clear distinctions between a fantasy world and an imaginary one, and, as such, disagree with any talk of merger. To be sure, as Electrawn notes, a fantasy world is most certainly imaginary, but an imaginary world is not necessarily fantastic. To take the Wiki definition of fantasy: "a genre of art that uses magic and other supernatural forms". Why was this split from fictional universe?

This article doesn't really do anything to distinguish itself from that article. The intro paragraph is just a badly formatted collection of wikilinks to subjects that are probably also merge-worthy. What is the difference between a "fictional universe" and "imaginary world"? Which parts of this article could not be merged into fictional universe or List of fictional universes?
