Indecent Assualt repealed in England and Wales
editHi all, I was looking through the Sexual Offences Act 1956 and that of 2003 and the former claims that the latter repealed the sections on indecent assault, not that the 2003 act only added on sexual assault (as the article currently claims). It is also listed on the History of English criminal law page under abolished offences. Could someone more knowledgeable confirm and edit? Erynamrod (talk) 14:25, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- I agree absolutely. In my understanding the SOA 2003 abolished "indecent assault" and replaced it with the "less serious" charge of sexual assault (s.3). Some elements of indecent assault (specifically oral or anal rape) were been fused with rape (s.1). It is possible, however, that it might survive for cases that predate the 2003 legislation? In any case, the article here was clearly wrong and I am therefore I am inclined to doubt the accuracy of the other information in the section. —Brigade Piron (talk) 14:31, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
