User Ratings
I thought wikiproject films was moving away from user ratings in favor of professional reviews. ColdFusion650 15:48, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- There are no user ratings on here. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 15:49, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I thought Rotten Tomatoes was a user ratings website. ColdFusion650 15:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- LOL, no. Well, it has "user ratings" but those 30+ reviews are from professional critics. Same as Yahoo and Metacritic. There are only 4 reviews for the Cream of the Crop, so I can't use that column, but for some reason it's corrupting the table when I remove it...I might have to create a new one. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 15:52, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- The list indicators box is overlayed on top of the table in Gecko. Mediawiki must use some IE specific code, cause it works fine there. ColdFusion650 15:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Huh? I don't know what that means, but I know that when I remove the CotC stuff, all the information cycles around so the film title is next to Metacritic, the rest is all jumbled. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 15:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Look at the page using a Gecko based browser, Firefox, Netscape, Flock, etc. Instead of the List Indicators blockquote box above the ratings table, it's laid on top of it. If you don't have a Gecko browser handy, I'll post a screenshot. ColdFusion650 15:59, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

How's it now? BIGNOLE (Contact me) 16:02, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Looks good now. It used to look like this on Firefox. Since Internet Explorer renders a lot of things incorrectly, some sites code to make it look right on IE, but that means they use non-standards compliant code, and then it breaks it on all other browsers. I thought Wikimedia was above that, but I guess not. ColdFusion650 16:07, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I jumped on firefox too see what was going on (I was the IP that fixed it). I generally use IE so I don't notice FF or other browser problems. Though, I notice that FF and others will correct the large gap that images create when they are placed in a spot that puts them under an infobox or something, but IE won't do that...so you end up with a huge gap in the middle of the text. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 16:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- The lightgrey vs lightgray color thing is another IE quirk. IE uses lightgrey (British spelling of grey). The W3C International CSS standard uses lightgray (American spelling of gray). I checked it on the W3C CSS validation service. If you use the correct spelling of gray, IE goes haywire. Another instance where correct coding messes up IE's nonstandard coding. ColdFusion650 16:25, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- So, what are you seeing? I see a dark grey shade (which is what I want to see, based on the indicator box). If it's "lightgrey" or "gray" (the literal color) then it just blends in with everything else. If I put "darkgrey" then it doesn't show up on IE. But, ..lol... if I put "darkgray" then it shows up on both IE and FF. The problem with that color is that it doesn't show the column divider. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 16:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I replaced it with #D3D3D3, which is the hexadecimal color value for IE's rendering of lightgrey. This ensures that it shows up the same everywhere. ColdFusion650 16:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Awesome. I'm going to pull out an infobox for the page, and then I'm probably going to call it quits for this article for a bit. I'll see if I can help you find some sources for Indiana Jones...do you still have that DVD box image that was removed? Cause that would work for the infobox I believe. - Ok, I got the box in. It nees a lead to take up some space since the box goes down to the BO info. It's filled with the film information, because in my opinion, they are the reason the franchise extends beyond film. Had they been terrible films this would simply be called "film series". Then again, there was that Tremors show. Ok, now I need a break for a bit. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 16:56, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Merge proposal
I suggest merging List of Indiana Jones appearances. Make sense to take two fair articles and make them into something better, and with a non-fictional perspective too. Alientraveller (talk) 11:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- The list article would have to be severely reworked. Pasting in a huge list of books, comics, and video games would not be good. ColdFusion650 (talk) 15:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well pasting in here and cleaning it up will be easier. Alientraveller (talk) 14:28, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Video games
There's quite a few video games under this franchise, as seen at Category:Indiana Jones games. Any thoughts about including it in this section? Not sure if there are overall statistics for the games (as articles from video game magazines are out of my league). However, GameRankings.com is a Rotten Tomatoes-like website for video games. Type "indiana jones", and you can see what games have been reviewed or not. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 16:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I guess it'll be good cites for this article when I implement the games. Alientraveller (talk) 16:41, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Suggest character list
I propose that all or most of the characters be merged into one Character page.--SGCommand (talk • contribs) 14:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- That'd be a good idea for characters who only appeared in one film. We could redirect Toht, Dietrich, Willie, Short Round, Mola Ram, Elsa, Donovan, Mutt, Mac, Spalko and the characters Pat Roach played there. Indy, Marion, Belloq, Senior, Lao Che, Sallah and Brody have made numerous appearances, including the books, so they can have their own articles. Alientraveller (talk) 11:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

I think there should be some note that the graphic novels listed here are actually reprints of the comic "The Young Indiana Jones Adventures" so there isn't confusion. Why no credit to Secrets of the Incas???
I am surprised no one has mentioned that Lucas modeled Indy after Harry Steele from the movie, Secret of the Incas. The costume designer for Raiders said that the crew watched it together "several times" during production (see: Secret_of_the_Incas#Influence_on_Raiders_of_the_Lost_Ark). Harry wears a fedora, a dark brown leather flight jacket (he's a pilot too), khaki pants, and dark brown leather boots and carries a revolver.
You can watch the film on Youtube (apparently has lost copyright), at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X33ActK3gT8 If you watch part 9, you'll see where Lucas got the idea for the "Map Room" in Raiders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxkx0X_mvEI
Shared themes with Star Wars
Hello, all. There was a Wikipedia article, Star Wars and Indiana Jones connection, which was mostly a list of trivia. It underwent the AfD process and subsequently got deleted. During the process, though, I attempted an overhaul to see if I could make it better. The result was User:Erik/Star Wars and Indiana Jones connection. The consensus was to delete the topic, but the content was indicated to be salvageable. I am thinking that I could insert the "Shared themes" section in this article; I would hate for such content to go to waste. I doubt the "List of references" section has a place, though. What do others think? Could "Shared themes" go here or somewhere similar? Erik (talk | contribs) 16:31, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- I went ahead and added the section. If you dispute this addition, please message me on my user talk page as I do not have this on my watchlist. Erik (talk | contribs) 18:46, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- I see that Oknazevad (talk · contribs) removed the section, considering it undue weight. I'm not sure if that part of policy applies since it is not about the quality of the films, nor are there competing viewpoints about themes. I am wondering if the content can be included in another way, such as summarizing it further? Or perhaps having an academic section with this section and a couple of others making different kinds of comments about the films' themes? EDIT: Here is one example. Erik (talk | contribs) 14:34, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- If it were a well-sourced general "Themes" section very briefly describing a few academic opinions on the series, then it'd work. The problem with the section as it was lay in the presence of only one narrowly defined thought with too much space devoted to it. It should be It's one thing to point the reader to an academic treatment of the subject, but too completely cover any one analysis is outside the scope of this article. oknazevad (talk) 15:18, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Missing a location in the map
I'm most definitely sure that Indiana Jones also visited Greece on an island near Crete. It was in Raiders of the Lost Ark when they went to the secret Nazi island with the submarine. It's definitely the map of Greece, somewhere near Crete.
This is from Indiana Jones Wiki
The Ark changed hands between Indy and the Nazis several times before the Nazis took the Ark to a secret island base near Crete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.68.119.126 (talk) 12:36, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Incarnation move proposal
Why does The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles come after the third movie? It is not in the same category as the films. It should go after the fourth film because It takes place in a separate universe from the main films. Look at this article if you need an example of what needs to be done. (Terminator (franchise)).Zucat (talk) 18:45, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, it is the same universe, explicitly stated as such by Lucas, and referenced in the fourth film. Regardless, though, we only care about an out-of-universe, real world perspective here, and it is unambiguous and factual that Young Indy was produced after the third film and before the fourth. So it remains where it is. oknazevad (talk) 14:35, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Disney franchise
This discussion is to address the constant edit warring found on this page and the Disney Consumer Products navigation box, regarding the inclusion of "Indiana Jones" as a Disney franchise. If you wish to participate, please refer to the talk page guidelines and also provide reliable and verifiable sources to support your thoughts.
First, I'll begin with an irrevocable fact. According to the original and official press release published by The Walt Disney Company, Disney's 2012 acquistion of Lucasfilm meant that Disney also acquired the "rights to the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises". This is also confirmed by a separate third-party source. Therefore, Disney directly owns the rights to Indiana Jones intellectual property and that's unarguable.
I believe that the main conflict in this issue is what occurred after the acquisition's announcement, when Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Disney wasn't interested (at the time) in producing another Indiana Jones film, due to Paramount's distribution rights. However, regardless of what Disney's plans are for the Indiana Jones film series, the company is still interested in utilizing the franchise, in its "consumer products, television, games, theme parks and beyond", as evidenced in Iger's own company memo.
Therefore, Indiana Jones' inclusion in the Disney Consumer Products navbox and its categorization as a Category:Disney franchises is completely justified for two points; 1) Disney owns the IP, and 2) The definition of a media franchise accounts for a variety of areas other than film, including television, merchandise, print, theme parks, video games, etc. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 03:56, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- Bottom line is the facts as you state them are verifiable by reliable sources, and therefore must be included. To not include them based on an offhand comment by Iger is to parrot the company line, which does not fulfill the NPOV obligation. At this point, any reversion can only be considered a case of obstinate refusal to listen to consensus and verifiability. oknazevad (talk) 04:11, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- And now that Disney owns the film rights, this issue is finally done. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 04:38, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Disney just recently announced that they will officially make a fifth Indiana Jones movie, but Paramount Pictures will still continue to own permanent distribution rights to the first four Indiana Jones movies. This is true, right? AdamDeanHall (talk) 19:07, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

A little bit of trivial knowledge.
This was the second Viacom franchise to be bought by The Walt Disney Company after the Nickelodeon animated series Doug.
