– The franchise is the primary topic. Moving the main article to Indiana Jones would permit Category:Indiana Jones (franchise) to be moved back to Category:Indiana Jones, and then the sub-categories could remain at their current short names; otherwise they are going to be renamed with "(franchise)" in the middle, which IMHO is clumsy, longwinded and undesirable. – Fayenatic London 11:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom. The franchise is the primary topic and not the character. Armbrust The Homunculus 12:07, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per WP:NCFILM#Media franchise, its best if the franchise overview occupy primary as a WP:CONCEPTDAB. Requires a lot of cleanup to Special:WhatLinksHere/Indiana_Jones. But I will say that nom's reasoning related to category names isn't valid - article titles are determined by WP:TITLES policy, not the aesthetic needs of categorization schemes. -- Netoholic @ 12:19, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

- Support It makes sense to have this be at the base name. See also James Bond. Calidum 15:44, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. Long overdue. Gareth Griffith-Jones (contribs) (talk) 16:15, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support: I’m not sure what I could say to make a compelling objection. Everything seems sound--BaseFree (talk) 14:36, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support. The analogy to James Bond convinces me. oknazevad (talk) 17:38, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Transferring information to a separate Indy 5 page?
editI was wondering if it's about time for us to transfer the information we have on this page (for the Indy 5 subsection) over to a fully separate one for Indy 5. After years of it being in the works, the ball is finally rolling and new cast information has been dropping quite frequently over the past few weeks. With the movie set to start filming this year and a scheduled release for next summer, I think we have more than enough to finally open an article on the film. It could be possible that we may need more info or perhaps even a title before anyone would like to create the page and move content over. I don't know if this is necessarily a question that should be asked here but I would like to know any thoughts. Johnson5234 (talk) 03:25, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
New casting source?
editIt was said and some sites showed on-set images of actor Toby Jones with Harrison Ford. Is there any source anyone considers reliable here. That someone can find to add to the Untitled Film section here? 0Detail-Attention215 (talk) 01:00, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Spielberg should be mentioned in the lead paragraph
editTo me, it just feels wrong not to mention Spielberg in the lead alongside Lucas. He and Lucas worked closely together on all of the first four films, and as the director — that is, the one (literally) calling the shots — he has had at least as much of a hand as Lucas did in the franchise's identity and appeal. He is also a producer for the fifth film, which actually leaves him with more production credits than Lucas.
Spielberg is clearly a key creative force in this franchise, and an edit with the intent of mentioning him would not have to be large at all; something as small as a new clause would do. What say you all? Marisauna (talk) 20:44, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- No. Spielberg plainly has stated many times that Lucas brought his pre-existing character idea to him. Lucas created the character. oknazevad (talk) 17:45, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Frankly, who first created the character or setting (and yes, Lucas unambiguously did both) has nothing to do with what I'm trying to argue. What I'm saying is that Spielberg has had a strong and sustained influence on how people have received Lucas' ideas, and that both of them have worked inseparably to fine-tune the films.
- Auteur theory, one of the fundamental elements of modern film criticism, tends to give directors so much credit because they are heavily involved at all levels of the film production process, from choosing a script to shooting to editing and post-production. Likewise, films are also considered "the director's" because the director determines how it looks; since film is a primarily visual medium, this is also its chief concern. Lucas and Spielberg are the dual auteurs of Indiana Jones: Spielberg because he is the director, making him an auteur in a more pedestrian way, and Lucas because he is the creator and "idea guy," collaborating with the director much more intimately than the average screenwriter ever does.
- I would also like to direct you to the Background section of the article, where Spielberg's heavy involvement may clearly be seen. "Spielberg and Lucas" appears just as often as either of their names on its own, and they can be seen bouncing ideas off one another and deciding jointly what ends up in the films. They are unambiguously shown as the dual creative drives of the franchise. Some examples:
- "Spielberg and Lucas aimed to make Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom much darker, because of their personal moods following their respective breakups and divorces."
- "Spielberg revisited the Monkey King and haunted castle concepts, before Lucas suggested the Holy Grail. Spielberg had previously rejected this as too ethereal, but then devised a father-son story..."
- "Spielberg and Lucas discussed the central idea of a B-movie involving aliens, and Lucas suggested using crystal skulls to ground the idea."
- "Darabont claimed Spielberg loved the script, but Lucas had issues with it, and decided to take over writing himself."
- And as early as 1977, "Spielberg and Lucas made a deal with Paramount Pictures for five Indiana Jones films."
- Spielberg is also referenced as a creative force absent Lucas, especially in the case of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:
- "In 2000, Spielberg's son asked when the next Indiana Jones film would be released, which made him interested in reviving the project."
- "...giving his script the subtitle Destroyer of Worlds, based on the Robert Oppenheimer quote. It was changed to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, as Spielberg found this a more inviting title which actually named the plot device.
- "Darabont's main contribution was reintroducing Marion Ravenwood as Indiana's love interest, but he gave them a 13-year-old daughter, which Spielberg decided was too similar to The Lost World: Jurassic Park."
- Harrison Ford is quoted as saying the following: "No way am I being in a Steven Spielberg movie like that."
- And once again, Lucas has no involvement in the fifth film, while Spielberg is listed as a producer.
- I understand not listing Spielberg as a creator, I will give you that, but it is exceedingly clear that Indiana Jones as we know it would not exist without him. Not having him in the lead diminishes his many contributions, and borders on misinformation. He must be added somewhere. Marisauna (talk) 16:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
