In the Des Moines City Council section of this article, the article states, "Sheumaker has no previous experience with electoral politics, as evident by her failure to represent the community that voted her onto the council." The last part of this statement is opinion and should be removed asap.
Additionally, the last bit of the article states, "As of August 3, 2023, Sheumaker has missed 90% of the City Council meetings, leading to calls for her to resign or be removed from office." The 90% statistic is not present in the article cited, and it is demonstrably false. It is true that, since attending the March 6, 2023 meeting, she missed 22 consecutive council functions as well as other boards and commissions to which she was appointed to represent the city. It is also true that, following the August 21, 2023 board meeting, her absentee rate for the previous 12 months stood at 59.57%, and her overall absentee rate since taking office stood at 38.82%.
Full disclosure: I have been one of the voices calling for her to be removed from office for this absentee rate. Yet, saying she has failed to represent the community and missed 90% of meetings is patently false. Jrgeerdes (talk) 18:44, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
