Talk:Infections of a Different Kind (Step 1)

EP?

edit

This release is referred to as an EP throughout the article, but I found that to be a little confusing given that it's the first half of a double album and is only seven minutes shorter than A Different Kind of Human (Step II).

I combed the English-language and non-paywalled references on this article that specifically refer to this title and separated them out to distinguish which ones use "EP" and which use "album". I also did a little extra looking with those specific terms to find some additional references:

Album

EP

I realize it might look like I'm cherry-picking sources, but even when searching with "EP" and "extended play", that Guardian source is still the only one I can find that explicitly says EP. I made a genuine effort to find references that use EP, It's overwhelmingly clear that it's considered a studio album, and I believe this page and all of Aurora's related articles to reflect this. I'd be happy to do that if there aren't any objections. Sock (tock talk) 20:09, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • UPDATE: I foolishly forgot to include the main source the categorization is attributed to, which is Aurora herself in this video at 0:20. I don't think her identification in a single video is near enough to outweigh the rest of these sources, though. Sock (tock talk) 20:18, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
This was also discussed in Aurora's talk page, where @JBOOK17 answered that it can be both categorizations but since Step 1 was less promoted than Step 2 and was released digitally with a few physical copies released a year later, it made sense for Step 1 to be an EP. However, I get your point and was thinking that we can compile the info similar to Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster or Billie EIlish's Guitar Songs which, for me can solve the confusion and be more understandable for readers. I think you've got it right, and this should be reclassified as an album. We go with what the sources say, and you've provided a convincing case of the consistency with which they refer to this as an album. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 07:07, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Worth noting that Guitar Songs has a footnote showing just how many sources call it an EP, and a similar approach could be useful here. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 07:08, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I know right, they did a good job in that article. If there are no objections, I can gladly help with doing the new changes. GiankM. M (talk) 23:37, 1 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Good catch on both of those QuietHere, and thank you for the extra context GiankM. M! Given that there's no objection to the change, I'll start by updating this page and adapt those notes found on The Fame Monster and Guitar Songs and work through her other works from there.
