Various issues with this article

edit

There seem to be a lot of problematic things in this article.

  • No need for such a long list of partner universities in the lead.
  • No need to list so many MA courses, especially all under separate headings.
  • Very little of the ‘History’ section is specific to this university – it’s mostly about Sciences Po Paris and the ENA.
  • The ‘Rankings’ section is largely criticisms of Sciences Po Paris.
  • More neutral wording needed in a lot of places.

It looks to me like some major re-writing is needed. @Robminchin: – mind if I ask your advice? Since the page is pretty inactive am I free to go ahead and make significant edits? Toden102 (talk) 02:33, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Toden102: I agree that this looks like it needs substantial re-writing. As it looks like the last non-technical update was in January, it seems unlikely that there are many editors watching over this page. I would wait until next weekend to see if anyone else replies to this thread, then go ahead. Robminchin (talk) 13:24, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks! I'll post again outlining changes I want to make before I carry out any substantial edits. Toden102 (talk) 05:14, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
No-one has replied so I’ll make substantial edits soon.
  • Re-wording to more neutral phrasing.
  • Cutting the big list of partner universities from the lead.
  • Shortening the history and rankings sections to leave info that applies more directly to the IEP de Lyon.
  • Shortening down the ‘Social life’ section – especially parts referenced with youtube videos.
  • Removing the gallery at the bottom, which contains various pictures of Lyon, but none of the IEP de Lyon itself.
  • The university does not appear to be a member of some of the organizations listed: Coimbra group, APISA, EUA etc. I’ll check again before removing though.Toden102 (talk) 07:56, 22 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Partner Universities

edit

@Robminchin: could I ask your advice again? I’ve been cleaning up the article a little but I’m unsure what to do about the long list of partner universities in the ‘Curriculum and international network’ section. My feeling is that it’s way too long and needs condensing, but I’m not sure how to go about doing that. If a university has many partner institutions, which ones should be mentioned in the article, and how many?

Edit - on top of that, could I ask the same question about the alumni section - is it too long? Would it be worth making into a separate article? Toden102 (talk) 07:43, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

The partner institutions section does seem very long, and not very well verified. It looks to me as if the list isn't adding anything to the article and appears to have been dropped into the middle of the 'curriculum' sub-section, which continues below the list. I would be tempted to remove it entirely and simply say that there are over 150 partner institutions - which seems to be all they say on their website anyway.
The 'Notable alumni' and 'Notable faculty' aren't too long in an absolute sense, but feel rather long compared to the rest of the article (they take up about 25% of the length, estimating by eye). It might not be sufficient to establish notability as a stand-alone list. It is not clear from the article that all listed alumni/faculty are, in fact, notable - they should be able to meet the same criteria for notability as required for a stand-alone article. That few of these people have their own articles implies that they may not meet the criteria - it might be worth investigating if they have articles on French Wikipedia and linking these with {{ill}} if they aren't present on English Wikipedia (this will show a redlink for the English language article and give a link to the non-English article until the English article is created, at which point only the link to that is shown).
