Not used for Apollo 11

edit

I have in the past been in possession of a document that states Early Bird was in reserve for Apollo 11, but was thought it might not have a strong enough signal. Instead, NASA reactivated a trans-Atlantic submarine cable system that took twelve telephone voice circuits and configured them for "inverse multiplexing", taking the digital signal feed between the spacecraft and Mission Control, dividing it into twelve signals and sending each on the limited bandwidth of each telephone voice circuit. In Maryland, the signals would be re-integrated and sent to Mission Control. This was used to get the mission telemetry from Roblenes, Spain to the US, whenever that station faced the moon during Earth's rotation. GBC (talk) 07:40, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Out of synch

The page claims Intelsat I was first in GEO; this page says Syncom 2... TREKphiler hit me ♠ 23:42, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

For the record, Intelsat I was the first commercial satellite in GEO. Both pages (now) mention this. —Oliphaunt (talk) 08:31, 12 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
