This article was a boilerplate text provided by the International Council of Museums for free use. It appears on the Web site dedicated to the ICOM conference held in 2004, and either literally or with minor variation in countless other contexts. It also appeared in the museum article (prepared by another author) but was removed there as well. (I noticed this when returning to that article to edit out the redundancy.) If details are needed about the authority by which I am representing ICOM's copyright claims, please contact me by e-mail. —Futhark 14:30, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The text appears on several pages with copyright notices. Without a clear statement from the author on relinquishing copyright we cannot release it under GFDL. Are you the author or the authorized agent of this body? Rmhermen 22:48, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
I am an authorized agent of ICOM and am the author of the parent version of the text that may well be posted elsewhere with copyright claims, but is nonetheless also mine to post here. If you require specific details about this, please contact me by e-mail. futhark 17:47, 2005 Feb 20 (UTC)

Merge proposal

edit

I propose to merge ICOM MPR here, as it's a non-notable marketing committee of a highly notable organisation. It's referenced only by primary sources, and neither I nor two other editors have been able to find significant coverage of the commitee online from WP:Reliable sources. It can also be condensed into more concise prose. Norvoid (talk) 12:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Norwoid, I think it's very important to save and improve this ICOM MPR article because it's about educational opportunities for museum professionals. I added the link about MPR to the main ICOM article. The list of ICOM committees is published there. The most of them are important just for internal affairs of ICOM, but ICOM MPR has the special mission that aimed to inform museum specialists all over the world about new communication tools with museum audience as well as challenges and innovations for the museums in general. So it's like an independent educational initiative. I'll try to find some more sources from mass media about this committee. Mariya80 (talk) 12:49, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, I think the content is worth saving and improving too, but there's no reason for a separate article for that. Norvoid (talk) 12:54, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

But look, the structure of ICOM article doesn't consist the description of other committees (and how I've already mentioned it's not very important for large audience to know about internal affairs). Now the list of committees is even hidden. But ICOM MPR is other thing. Where do you offer publish the info about ICOM MPR if we don't want to break the structure of ICOM article? We should care about comfortable and quick searching process. Mariya80 (talk) 13:06, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

A short description of the committee can be easily added here. I'll add it myself now. As far as ease of search, we can redirect ICOM MPR to this article so anyone searching for ICOM MPR will be directed here. Norvoid (talk) 13:12, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Short summary added. Norvoid (talk) 13:21, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
It's a great idea! Thank you for your help! Mariya80 (talk) 13:28, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
You're most welcome. Let's wait for input from other editors on this before merging. Norvoid (talk) 13:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

So, now ICOM MPR article isn't an orphan. How can I change this status? Mariya80 (talk) 13:30, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Orphan tag removed. Norvoid (talk) 13:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Norvoid, million thanks for your support and constructive comments. I'm lucky that you chose this text to edit and at the same time helped me to understand many useful things. Mariya80 (talk) 13:40, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I see no issues with a merge. Harry Let us have speaks 13:41, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I actively support the merge. ICOM's international committees are not autonomous organizations and the obvious place to provide information about them—from both the editorial perspective and that of the general public—is the ICOM article, itself. --Futhark|Talk 16:00, 8 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
As former Chair of ICOM-MPR (twice) I agree with the proposal to merge individual committee information under the umbrella of the primary organisation's reference, which is reflective of ICOM's federated structure. The ICOM-MPR Committee's foundational information is incorrectly listed here anyhow (NB: The International Committee for Marketing and Public Relations was first established in 1976, and not 1977 as noted, to fill a perceived gap in the spectrum of ICOM's concerns. It was chiefly thanks to the persistence and persuasiveness of Ms. Corinne Bellow, then of London’s Tate Gallery, that this new international committee of ICOM was established).LandDownUnder2020 (talk) 21:21, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
