For the last 40 years IFToMM was facilitating international collaboration and promoting of the of MMS among educational institutions. The organization is mentioned in thousands of scientific papers and books (as of August 2012 Google Scholar shows 18,000+ citation of the organization name and 7,000+ citation of the organization abbreviation).
