The "in the press" page of IREX's website may be a source for finding 3rd party information to add to this article: http://www.irex.org/newsroom/inthepress/index.asp Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 13:08, 31 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Some proposed changes

edit

I’m an intern in IREX’s communications unit. We noticed that the Wikipedia page about IREX is several years out of date and that it includes some information that is no longer accurate. We’d like to request the following changes.

- IREX changed its logo last year and the new logo is available here: https://www.irex.org/logos

Note: You may wish to see this page on the best approach to take, as claiming fair-use (which I could do) should not be done unless it's not possible to receive the rights to post the logo. VB00 (talk) 07:31, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

- Change formation of name to show “IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board)” since it is more often referred to as IREX on its website and by external members. Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). https://www.irex.org/about-us https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/irex#/entity

Not done Referring to a company by its full name is advised to avoid any confusion, so I've kept that as it is. VB00 (talk) 07:31, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

- Update the key people to show Dr. Kristin Lord, who is now the President and CEO of IREX. Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/kristin-lord-appointed-new-presidentceo-of-irex-273576031.html

  Done VB00 (talk) 07:31, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

- Update the general description of IREX. "IREX is an independent nonprofit organization that specializes in international education and development. With an annual portfolio of $80 million and 400 staff worldwide, IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries to help societies advance their own solutions." Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). https://www.guidestar.org/profile/22-3087809

Partly done Clearly promotional (WP:PROMO), and I could not find the "100 countries" part. However, I did update the portfolio and staff. VB00 (talk) 07:31, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

- Expand on IREX’s programs. Note, IREX no longer administers the Muskie program. "Founded in 1968, IREX's mission is to build a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world by empowering youth, cultivating leaders, strengthening institutions, and extending access to quality education and information. Using field-tested methods, IREX designs and implements programs that focus on civil society, education, gender, governance, leadership, media, technology, and youth. IREX currently runs over 70 programs in 100 countries, including the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Learn to Discern, the World Smarts STEM Challenge, and the Iraq University Linkages Program." Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). https://www.guidestar.org/profile/22-3087809 https://www.irex.org/our-work

Not done The text proposed is clearly promotional, so I have just updated the sentence with the Muskie program to reflect that its no longer administered. I did not see the other programs in the source. Please note that trying to add "copy-pasted" content into Wikipedia is against the rules, and cannot be done. Continuation of doing so may lead to consequences such as warnings and potential blocks. VB00 (talk) 07:31, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

proposed changes based on editor's comments

- Thank you for explaining that it is promotional. We’ve removed some of the numbers and adjusted the text to be more concise, while updating the out-of-date information. Would something like the following version work?

"The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is an international, nonprofit organization that specializes in global education and development. IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries around the world to promote leadership, improve the quality of education, and increase access to information."

- Thanks again for the note on promotional text. At the moment, the Wikipedia page lists some programs that IREX no longer administers (the Muskie Fellowship and Global UGRAD in Eurasia and Central Asia). Would it be possible to remove this outdated information and replace it with a few of IREX's current programs? Also, it could help readers to list our current areas of focus. Here's some information that is up to date:

"IREX currently designs and implements 70 programs that focus on civil society, education, gender, governance, leadership, media, technology, and youth. These include the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Learn to Discern, the World Smarts STEM Challenge, and the Iraq University Linkages Program."

Declined I don't see a specific request for what is proposed to be either removed or added to the article. For example:
Proposed Changes
Current text Replace with
In 2008, the Prime Minister remarked that she would not leave office. The Prime Minister left office in 2008.
