The 15th congress was in Lisbon I think, and the next will be in Brazil: http://xvicongressouispp.wikispaces.com/home PatHadley (talk) 22:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

It is sometimes also abbreviated as UISPP (e.g., in the Wik article on Homo erectus. Maybe there should be a re-direct thence. Kdammers (talk) 20:23, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

UISPP actually is the only official abbreviation, if you look at their constitution, available from the UISPP website. IUSPP was used as a variant in some of the older conference proceedings, but that usage has long been deprecated. The full title of this page is also inaccurate; it should read "International Union of" rather than "International Union for". That likewise seems to be an error introduced with the proceedings from the 2006 Lisbon congress. Someone put the mistranslated title on the cover of a proceedings volume and it then got copy-pasted on the covers of all subsequent volumes from that conference. Year of foundation

edit

The year of the foundation of the organization in the current version of the text is given as 1930, but according to the historical overview of the UISPP's creation on its website (https://uispp.net/en/history-uispp), the merger of the Congrès international d'anthropologie et d'archéologie préhistoriques and the Institut International d'Anthropologie that led to the creation of the UISPP only took effect in May 1931, and that is also the year given as the official year of it foundation on the UISPP website (https://uispp.net/en).
