Propose Change

edit

I know that the Cricket season have been kept this way for a while now; but, I am proposing some changes for this article.

  • The overview table is fine, but the nested tables should be split.
  • Instead of using wikitables for displaying match results, simplified match summarises should be displayed (as in 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup).
  • If necessary, a key table on how to read a match summary should be included.

This would be a strong Oppose from me, particularly regarding the match summaries. These pages are for providing a very basic overview of a season, and not for detailing the scores in every event across a 6-month period. The result is all that is needed here. Each result includes a link to the scorecard, while the tournament page contains the expanded summaries of the matches in that event. I see what has been done in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup article, which I am somewhat neutral on, but that is a different case; the tournament page is being used for simplified match summaries, then the standard, expanded, summaries are on the sub-pages for each group. Here on the season pages, we just need the result here and the expanded summaries on the tournaments pages. i.e., the season page is not an equivalent page to the article on the 2024 World Cup (single tournament). Also when you consider the associate nation seasons, where there are lots of events per season, even the simplified summaries would make the pages far longer and harder to read. PS: regarding the nested tables in the overview section, if you mean having separate tables for men's bilateral series, men's tournaments, etc., I would prefer to leave it but would have no strong feeling on that point. Bs1jac (talk) 14:33, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
In that case, the wikitables should be simplified:
  • No need for the captains.
  • Scorecard should be in the last column rather than the first.
  • The result should be plain text. no need for the {{Cr}} again, and should be linked to the summary in Wikipedia where necessary like in the T20WC.
  • No need for the entire venue; only the city wikilinked to the stadium article would be enough.

Would have less of an issue with this. As I said the long season pages should be kept to a minimum amount of detail. Giving exact scores would be far too much, conversely, I agree that captains are not essential and that the venue could be the city wiki linked to the ground. Regarding the wiki linked results, I agree this would work for tournaments, but bilateral series would require some thought. Scorecard in first/last column... again no strong preference. Whatever, I would suggest starting any new format from the 2024-25 season; that would allow that page to be developed over a few weeks and would give editors a chance to familiarise themselves. Bs1jac (talk) 14:54, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Agree with that; I'll start working on the 2024-25 season then. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 15:54, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Mentioning only city and not the venue can be difficult a city can have more than one cricket stadium. For eg Colombo has 4 stadiums (P Sara Oval, Colombo Cricket Club Ground, R Premadasa Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club Ground) Mumbai has 3 stadiums (Gymkhana Ground, Brabourne Stadium and Wankhede Stadium) Dhaka also has two venues (Bangabandhu National Stadium and Shere Bangla National Stadium) there are more so only mentioning the city will create confusion. Kumarpramit (talk) 18:46, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
It will be like this: [[Wankhede Stadium|Mumbai]] - The city would be actually wikilinked to the stadium. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 00:23, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I will oppose that I think both should be mentioned to make easy for a reader, if to check the stadium one has click the link then the summary will be of no use. Kumarpramit (talk) 18:18, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
How about just stadium then? Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 06:12, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
That can be done. Kumarpramit (talk) 08:55, 9 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I Agreed with your new suggested model of Cricket season summary, Bs1jac. Goodknowme (talk) 02:35, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am in strong oppose for the proposed changes. This page is suppose to be like a summary for the season. No need to to add the score summary, but removing the captain name or no use of {{Cr}} is not acceptable. Again my personal views. Ankurc.17 (talk) 08:59, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
I didn't say no use of {{Cr}}; I meant that they are already in the teams columns and no need for them to be used again in the result column. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 09:02, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
And the Captian's name? Thats how one summariezes the series. Ankurc.17 (talk) 09:03, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
A link to the main article is provided; and if the scores aren't mentioned; mentioning captains doesn't makes any difference. While, removing the captains column improves prose not only that the current table is just much complexed when viewing from mobile. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 09:10, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bs1jac, I have question - what's the number given in the scorecards? (e.g: WT20I 1945, WT20I 1950 etc.) Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 13:54, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

These are the match number identifiers. e.g. the 1,945th women's T20I. Bs1jac (talk) 14:36, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is it the overall number since the format begun? Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 15:14, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Vestrian24Bio Yep Bs1jac (talk) 16:45, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 16:53, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
