A lot of the text in the early part of the article is lifted verbatim from The Encyclopaedia Britannica: A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences ..., Volumes 13-14, p. 728, without attribution. Except for the last sentence, the first paragraph appears to be a direct quote from e-Study Guide for: The Greeks: History, Culture, and Society by Ian B. Morris. Found this by Googling "an ancient region of central coastal Anatolia". Tbarron (talk) 11:55, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Except that Morris' work is copyrighted 2014 and the paragraph was in wikipedia in the form it appears in Morris in January, 2009. So it looks like Morris quoted wikipedia without attribution rather than the other way around. Tbarron (talk) 12:13, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Confusion with Ionia Islands

I suggest we include an initial statement "Not to be confused with {Ionian Islands}", which are unrelated geographically or linguistically. (Different spelling in Greek language). Turkish Name of Ionia

Delos photo representing an 'Ancient Region of Anatolia'?

Regarding the photo of Delos in the Infobox - would it be more appropriate to have a photo of a location in “Ionia proper” (on the coast of Anatolia) representing the geographic region of Ionia instead of the Delos picture. Because Delos, although a cultural centre of the ethnic/linguistic group ‘Ionians’, was geographically situated in the Cyclades, midway between mainland Greece and "Ionia proper” in Anatolia.

A Delos picture would have been quite appropriate for the article on the Ionians (the people) but perhaps a picture of Miletus or Mount Mycale or Ephesus would be more representative of the Ionia article. --Marcusaurelius161 (talk) 05:55, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Ionia and the Ionian Sea

The article says that Ionia is the setting of the novel The Ionian Mission (1981), by Patrick O'Brian. There is confusion of placenames here. The novel is set in the Ionian Sea, on the western side of Greece and Albania, and is not connected with the ancient province of Ionia, which was to the east of Greece proper, on the Aegean coast of Turkey.
