Merge

Google Books shows that the two terms mean the same thing (rhythmic structure), and that iqa' is used more frequently. Badagnani (talk) 01:36, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

The source currently cited [1] defines Iqa' as "metric cycle, rhythmic mode" (p.201) and wazn as "underlying poetic meter" (p.209). Hyacinth (talk) 00:41, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I checked the 2nd ed. of Grove and it says they're very much the same in a musical context, with iqa' being a more standard usage. Of course each term has its own etymology. In Arabic music, often terms used in poetry have a slightly different meaning when extrapolated to music. Badagnani (talk) 04:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
