Later arrivals in Iraq
editI see that 17 & 24 Indian Bdes arrivals have been added to the Iraq section. Either they should be removed (because they arrived after the end of hostilities) or the arrival of 8th Ind Div HQ recorded on 17 July (which took command of 17 + 24 Bdes and also 18 Ind Bde which arrived 26 July and then 19 Ind Bde in August which replaced 24 Bde in 8 Ind Div etc)....it all gets rather confusing - I think we should just remove the 2 brigades from the Iraq section. Iraq Command
editI'm very suspicious of the usage here. In the British usage the name Iraq Command would normally imply a GHQ reporting direct to the War Office in London. This was not the case (HQ Iraq was always being bounced between Middle East Command (GHQ Cairo) and GHQ India). It was not until Persia and Iraq Command was formed in 1942 did it truly become a Command reporting to the War Office in London. I find no mention of Iraq Command in the official histories of Playfair or Mackenzie , although arguing against myself it does specifically talk about Cyrenaica Command, which I believe came under GHQ Cairo. My Dad was with 8th Indian Div in Iraq and only ever referred to Iraqforce and Paiforce. Are there any more citations on this? Stephen Kirrage talk - contribs 18:24, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
