Where's the article gone?

why on earth has this been deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.191.157 (talk) 00:50, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

The article failed the requirements for having a stand alone article, and so it has been redirected to the author. Do you have any reliable, independently published sources that discuss this character in a significant manner? If so the article can be recreated.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:53, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
Actually, there are already lots of notable, independently publishable sourceson the article and so it can be recreated right now. Please do not revert and, instead, try explaining your reasoning and objection in detail on the talk page? StuartDouglas (talk) 09:40, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
You have included a lot of primary, not independent, non reliably published sources. Keep trying.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:19, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
'Keep trying'? Perhaps a bit of manners might be an idea on your part? Every reference there is a reliable source by Wikipedia standards and that all but two are independent, relaible and secondary. Or are you suggesting that SFX, Starburst, Manchester University Press, several different reliable, independent publishers, Doctor Who Magazine etc etc are all unreliable? Apologies if you are either an American who really doesn't know the subject or the publications involved, or a child, ditto? In any case, I am removing all the tags as they are palpably ludicrous. If you disagree, perhaps you could explain - beyond your usual generalised squeal of 'oh I don't think they're notable/reliable/independent' - on the talk page exactly what your specific objection is? "No Place Like Home"

So far the rule of thumb in this article for listing Iris's appearances has been to include officially licensed material, plus unofficial material by Paul Magrs himself. There are a number of short stories in charity anthologies by other hands -- Lance Parkin's, Alan Taylor's, mine -- which aren't listed, simply because attempting to list all fanfic featuring a character quickly becomes unwieldy. Stories in fan anthologies by Iris's creator are arguably in a different category, but I'm not sure one wrtten by Paul's co-editor is. Either "Other Stories" should also list "Iris Explains", "Cabinet of Changes", "Iris Wildthyme and the Spiders from Magrs" etc by volume, with a clarification as to their origins, or none of them. I'd favour the latter. I've left the story listed for now, but in the longer term we should resolve this. Phil PH (talk) 15:46, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Original research

the "character" section has been tagged for WP:OR for three years. It is full of personal commentary and interpretation: "like Barbarella" "there are hints that Iris is aware" "Attempting to pin down the exact details of Iris's history is problematic ". in order to restore content, the person wishing to restore it MUST provide appropriate reliable inline citations. Primary sources can only be used for content which requires no interpretation or analysis "Batman wears a black cape."-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:18, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

The "Barbarella" reference is in the cited Doctor Who Magazine source, which contains both primary and secondary elements. Iris' metafictional awareness can be cited to the DWM article and to I, Who, a reliable secondary source. The citations need to be converted to inline format, a process which I will begin over the next week as time permits. Deletion of the section during this process would be unhelpful. (And for much of his history, Batman's cape was blue.) —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 00:01, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for these improvements, I was sure that that particular statement could be referenced. I think users in and around the wiki project Doctor Who (Iris is more of an entity that has featured in Doctor Who than an integral part, but still- they are placed to deal with it) have had a wake-up call with regard the quality issues around some of the articles within the scope of the project and just beyond so are on the case Rankersbo (talk) 10:07, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for adding the citations Josiah Rowe. As Rankersbo says, a lot of the Doctor Who pages need cleaning up or merged together, but there do seem to be multiple editors working to improve matters now. StuartDouglas (talk) 11:57, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
