Major State
editAccording to [1], Portugal is bigger in area and population than Ireland [2]. I don't think too many people would say that Portugal is a major European state. Nice try. Pete 23:13, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Well, not to nitpick really but area and population aren't the only criteria for characterizing something as "major." From the same source, the per capita GDP of Ireland is $31,900 (US$, 2004), well above Portugal's ($17,900) and on par with France and Germany (both $28,700). So that would be a justification for calling Ireland a "major European state." I agree, though, that the article is better without the word "major." -EDM 16:59, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, I spotted that, but Portugal has a higher GDP - it's just spread around more people. If we go down this track, Monaco is probably a powerhouse in the major nations league!
- As I said, nice try, and I will never fault anyone for loving their country. Ireland and its delightful people certainly hold a major place in my affections. Pete 20:03, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Article title
editI have moved this back to Irish European Constitution referendum, in keeping with the other articles in this series, e.g. Czech European Constitution referendum, Danish European Constitution referendum and Polish European Constitution referendum etc. Snappy56 (talk) 20:01, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
