Biased and Otherwise Suspect Sources

Much of the material in this article is drawn from internet sources with strong biases, factual inaccuracies, and poor or absent scholarship. For instance, the paragraphs about the Spanish Inquisition are largely drawn from The Inquisition: A History of Christian Torture Mass Murder and Destruction of Human Life, a website with a strong anti-Christian (or more generally anti-Judeo-Christian) bias and some shockingly inaccurate claims (such as the idea that most Inquisitors were Jews). The same paragraph also conflates the behavior of the Inquisition with the martyrdom of early Christians at the hands of the Romans: Gregory of Nyssa died c. 395, centuries before the beginning of the Inquisition.

Likewise, much of the description of the chair's function is drawn from "The Chair of Torture," a webpage which is not scholarly and does not cite any sources for the information it provides.
