As obituaries start to emerge, it seems to me that most refer to him primarily as Irving Burgie rather than as Lord Burgess - which was a name he used in the early part of his career as both performer and songwriter. As someone who likes to write songs, and who learned folk songs as a child, I am always interested in the history of songs and who wrote what part. I have read that Lord Burgess said himself that some of his songs were adaptations of folk melodies (and lyrics?). Often when writers use traditional melodies it will be noted "Words by ..... Music traditional". It would be great if some of the folk songs he adapted have earlier versions recorded that could be posted. He is listed as writing the music of some songs.
