this is where he was born and lived with his wife and children until 1805 as did his father and perhaps at least one of his grandfathers, the records are everywhere and even in several places in the Library of Congress, why have Congress refused to correct their official web site records to conform to the sources in their own possession ? He left an autobiography which is a pretty good read, and was privately published several times, at least one copy of which was deposited in the NYC Public Library 42d St Branch MSS John5Russell3Finley 23:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

The last 2 additions were bad, and I do not understand why someone would purposely add bad info here unless they have hostile motivations.

Please consider consulting me before changing things that are stated otherwise in the sources-they were correct as written when I added them some months ago.

1) Isaac Van Horne's auto biography at least one copy of which can be found in the NY Public Library and quotations from which can be found in WR Van Horne's Genealogy of the Vanhornes specify that McGaw's name was Samuel if it can be proven to be Robert then prove it or leave this alone.

2) I do believe that IVH was an officer in the 5th PA Regt (c. 1779 ?) however, even the wikipedia articles make it unclear whether that even existed in 1776, is there some possibilty that when he joined the army his unit may have had another name ?, or is the article about that unit in wikipedia incorrect ? I think it is a good idea to refer to a military entity using its name at the time it was being refered to and use a parenthetical statment if you want to add extra info that may have later relevance. I have a bit more of info about his military career if that is wanted, but I am unsure if this is original scholarship.

3) His Official Congressional Biography online has the party specified as Republican, and other sources confirm this. IVH is likley before they became Democratic-Republicans, perhaps he is even one of the founders of the Democratic-Republicans, however in 1803 I think he was not identified as a Democratic-Republican... my understanding of this is that calling him a member of the Democratic-Republicans in c 1803 may be is faulty scholarship, has been done before and in this case the govt is correct when in Congress he was a member of the Republican Party.

3) The tag is premature I am not done editing or adding stuff, and the format is just fine if you are editing. The last individual who decided to make a "prose package" out of this also made it nearly impossible to add in more info without spoiling the entire thing. If you can't add more info please don't assume that you can just tie it up into a neat little prose package without ruining it. There is very little wrong with it the way it is anyway. Today I restructured all the family info into a single 2 part section. I think all of this info is in WRvanHorne's widely distriduted privately printed genealogy a copy of which is at the Holland Soc in NYC, they are listed in the order that their mother listed them when she applied for her pension (she listed their birth dates too). 2d fed bnk

This is perhaps a serious issue, and I am not sure how much should be said about what later became the "Old Muskingum Bank". I have found nothing recorded anywhere about IVH's mangement of The 2d Federal Bank of Zanesville that I find reflecting badly on his character. However, his successor did not get on at all well with IVH's step son David who was also an officer of the bank and stayed on after IVH. An incident occurred, and appearantly this had bad effects financially on IVH through no fault of his own. My inclination is to blame Buckingham, his successor, for the finacial troubles of both the step son and the bank. One published history of Muskingum County Ohio deals with the incident and has David Marple as the primary cause of it, but hints that this was not the totality of it. The change of the category from Ohio Politician to Local Ohio Politician stikes me as both frivilous and incorrect, and I suspect may be vandalism. Since this has been a controvercial site I will leave this notice asking for comment, and if no one provides a valid reason for the change will change it back to Ohio Politician at the end of 1 week.

Not really, if you're gonna pull a discretionary correction like that perhaps it should have a reference to who it is that says this was incorrect, hence the undo.
