Talk:Israeli Jews

Origins section is meaningless .

edit

This whole section is literally a Zionist POV ("Homeland" , "Migrant Arabs", assuming the United Monarchy existed , ignoring "Judea" and Hasmonean conquests etc ) that attempts to re-interpret Jewish history as a national history , rather than a people . It doesn't even clearly discuss Jewish ethnogenesis during the Persian and Hasmonean periods , but repeat the biblical narrative in a nationalist lenses .

The entire first 3-4 paragraphs don't have a single citation from even a half-decent source .

There were no Israeli-Jews in history prior to 1896 at the earliest . Conflating Iron-Age Israelites and Judeans of classical antiquity with them is an anachronistic modern-day projection unto the past . 176.44.69.86 (talk) 12:43, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agree, the section has extremely weighted language for a Wikipedia page and requires significant editing. Galdrack (talk) 12:36, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Edit request on name of section "Israeli Jewish victims of Palestinian political violence"

edit

The language of this section is extremely heavily weighted and rather racist in it's language and projection. The title applies an implicit bias in the perspective of the Palestine-Israel conflict and it should be adjusted to be more in line with such sections in other pages.

Suggest removing the section entirely as it doesn't provide a specific history to the population, or moving it to "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_casualties_of_war" where applicable.

Numbers don't add up, need clarification and/or corrections

First paragraph says: "Approximately 99% of the global Israeli Jewish population resides in Israel"

Infobox says 500,000 are in the USA which is at least 6%, with some 200,000 or so more in other regions, so that 99% figure makes no sense.

Besides that, the infobox isn't clear about what it's counting. The Total Population numbers specify a percentage: "Jewish citizens only: 7,208,000 (73.2%)" - presumably this percentage is out of Israel's population, but how does that mesh with the population in other regions as listed in the next section? What's being counted and where?

What counts as an Israeli Jew and precisely how is it distinct from a Jewish person who lives in Israel? The second paragraph seems to discuss only the latter, adding to my confusion.

Incorrect assignment of "Arab" denomination

edit

The article classifies those from Turkey, Iran, and Central Asia as of Arab descent. However the people from those regions are not Arab, ethnically or linguistically. 139.68.241.235 (talk) 12:57, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
