Track gauge
editSince the article says that the rolling stock is still the same as in the 1st generation of Istanbul's tram, and the article Trams in Istanbul says it was standard gauge I am assuming that the "nostalgic tramways" also use standard gauge? This should be checked and included in the article. --BjKa (talk) 10:35, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- Checking both lines' websites and the Turkish wikipedia pages, and I'm seeing no mention of track gauge at either. It is probably safe to assume that they're both standard gauge, but I'd be leery of including that in the article without some kind confirmatory reference. FWIW. --IJBall (talk) 14:52, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe the track gauge could be verified with Turkish officials in Istanbul.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:25, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Requested move 19 December 2017
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Not moved. I don't see consensus in the favour of moving to the suggested title. For the time being, I'd create redirects from the suggested titles. (non-admin closure) sami talk 00:01, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
Istanbul nostalgic tramways → Istanbul heritage tramways – The current title is a direct translation from the Turkish name albeit not the best one. Therefore moving this page to Istanbul heritage tramways is the better translation, as the term heritage tram is the norm when talking about older trams. - Comment: On the plus side "heritage tram[way]" is the standard (English-language) terminology for this kind of system. On the minus side, I'm not sure why we shouldn't just use the direct translation, "nostalgic tramway", in this particular case. Long story short, for right now I am neutral on this page move request, and will wait to see other comments... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 16:08, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
- Move to alternate title - Move to Nostaljik Tramvay (the official name). "Nostaljik Tramvay" has 77,700 Google hits. As for the translations into English, "Nostalgic Tramways" has 5,350 hits (many of which seem to relate to Istanbul's trams) but "Istanbul Heritage Tramways" has a mere 152 hits ("Heritage Tramways" has 9,300 hits relating to many different tramways across the world). 79.65.126.84 (talk) 13:59, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- WP:ENGLISH applies, and would advise against this. However, this would seem to support the idea that the article is better where it is currently... --IJBall (contribs • talk) 15:33, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Note that UE only applies if there is a common English name. Not sure there is here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:13, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

- WP:ENGLISH makes a specific allowance for foreign names if there are "too few sources in English to constitute an established usage", which I would argue is the case. I've tried both "Nostaljik Tramvay" and "Nostalgic Tramway(s)" through a UK-only search and neither turn up much outside of travel sites which seem to use either term. In any case, altering the title to "Heritage Tramways" (or variant) does seem like a bad idea. 79.65.126.84 (talk) 16:15, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- The title Istanbul heritage tramways is an umbrella term that conveys the basic meaning of the system. I personally believe that the article should be merged with Trams in Istanbul and then two separate articles created for the Istiklal Avenue tram and the Moda (Kadıköy) tram. I would be willing to write those articles, if the consensus here promotes it. (Central Data Bank (talk) 13:19, 21 December 2017 (UTC))
- FWIW, I don't think those moves are necessary at all – esp. merging this in with Trams in Istanbul, which I am very much opposed to doing. The latter article is about the historical system. This article is about the current "heritage" systems – they are two totally different topics. I also remain unconvinced that each heritage line needs its own article, though I suppose I could be convinced if you created these as Draft articles first so they could be appraised. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 14:27, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
