notable recordings
editGreetings, I see that other people's recordings are listed - how about putting Ellington's own first recordings of the songs on the corresponding pages? I'd do it myself but my own collection of recordings is from later dates, when most of his compositions, and those associated with him, were already standards. quotes
editI don't know if it seems interesting enough to be mentionned but the whole sentence It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing has been used in numerous songs, for instance "Everybody dance" (Chic) or "Going through the motions" (Buffy tvs "once more with feeling") —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.66.166.251 (talk) 16:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

First song to use "swing" in the title
editI came here because a student mentioned this in a music appreciation assignment. Is there a source for this? This is surely not the case, at least as it is currently written. If it's actually the case, it would probably be better written more along the lines of "first song to directly reference swing rhythms by name, introducing..." As it's written, I'm left trying to fill in the blanks as to why Swing Low, Sweet Chariot doesn't count (I get it, it's talking about rhythm/feel, but it isn't very clear).
Writing aside, this sounds like one of those things that gets repeated a lot but isn't actually true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.40.22.244 (talk) 16:07, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
About one year later and still no source. This is coming back up in my appreciation class. I'm going to delete this line. I'd love to see a source for this claim.
Mills Brothers
editThe Mills Brothers did one of the main covers of this song 70.26.26.75 (talk) 16:45, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I can't find a source to establish the historical significance of the Mills Brothers version. We have a rule at WP:SONGCOVER (not binding but widely recognised) that cover versions should only be included if they have been discussed in reliable sources. - Okay, I found a brief mention so I've added the Mills Brothers to the article. Sojourner in the earth (talk) 07:01, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
