The new picture

Wow! That's a good pic! That's an American Iggy, is it? It seems a bit larger than the European trend, and the markings aren't what's accepted here. But, the image is great! MasterDirk 15:56, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

main picture

Adjusted the image on Commons and fixed the purple problem. It wasn't really vandalism, but was just where the image was over auto adjusted - managed to turn the thing purple on Photoshop while trying to fix it myself. Miyagawa (talk) 11:45, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Wrote up quite a bit about the breed. This information is based on my own experiance and documentation from the Breeder My iggy comes from :) If you want to check it, I'll scan it in for you, but it's in Norwegian... MasterDirk

I removed:

Greyhounds are extremely fast dogs and keen hunters who will chase a lure, so they are often used for greyhound racing.

I think this refers only to the larger breed, as far as I know Italian Greyhounds are not used for racing. Please replace if I'm wrong -- sannse 17:27, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)

There is some racing of Iggy's, but nothing nearly s organized as for their larger brethren. Until someone makes time to write a more extensive article I think it's right to remove this as it's not a major Iggy-thing (racing, that is). MasterDirk 11:12, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)

- Quite a few IGs have been lately track racing in Finland and they have good racers elsewhere in Europe, too :-) And they enjoy racing tremendously! - Hanna

There is an assertion in the article that I'd like to delete. "Italian Greyhounds are known for their lack of bladder control in comparison to other dogs. This is thought to be due to the bladder muscle in the dog being far too weak and due to many generations of breeding without removing the undesirable genetic traits." I have read fairly extensively about IGs and I have never encountered this bit of information. Moreover, a weak detrussor (bladder) muscle would result in urinary retention, not a lack of bladder control. If the urinary sphincter muscles are the muscles being referenced then the passage will need to be rephrased to reflect this. Blindeman75 (talk) 02:24, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

A proposal

Here's a proposal for an addition to this article. I am of course being tongue-in-cheek.

"When walking their dogs in public, owners of Italian greyhounds are often inundated with numerous annoying questions from passersby who are not familiar with the breed. These wearable FAQs read:

Hi! I am not a whippet, a baby greyhound, or a "miniature greyhound."

I do not race, but some of use like a sport called Lure coursing.

I am not too skinny. This is a proper, healthy weight for me.

Forums as references???

On 6 Apr 09, Chaoticfluffy had removed a link, stating forums are not a valid reference source. If this is the case, how does IG Whispers keep ending up in the External Links section?

I would much rather see links to the national breed clubs (i.e. http://www.italiangreyhound.org for the US, etc.) than I would a forum. Unfortunately, with many of these forums comes personality conflicts where fact becomes blurred by emotion. 132.25.0.207 (talk) 14:50, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

External links aren't held to quite the same standard as references - with a reference, we're relying on a specific bit of information in the page; with an external link, though, we're just suggesting it as "further reading". That being said, Wikipedia's guidelines on external links generally recommend against links to discussion forums. Zetawoof_(ζ) 15:11, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

I have heard this to, but it was do to horse riders coming by in the streets, not people stepping on them. Back in the old days, some italian and Roman families really liked these dogs and considered them vital I bet my greyhound could have brought home a rabbit everyday... Top Speed

My little Mikey, from a standing start could do a carefully marked 100 yard course in 7.1 seconds. That gives him an average of 28.8 mph, so at the end he was probably up about 31 or 32 mph. I think you could switch the speed to just over 30 mph safely. He was about 12 pounds at the time, so fairly average sized for an IG boy.
