1904

edit

While an IP added information about Italy's disputed participation in 1904, no official source counts that as an appearance for Italy in 1904. Frank Bizzoni's own article states that "he is listed as American cyclist" and our All-time Olympic Games medal table states that "IOC does not recognize participation of Italy at the 1904 Summer Olympics". The two available semi-official reports do not list Italy anywhere. Jmj713 (talk) 16:02, 31 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, but where are the official IOC documents proving Italy's absence at the 1904 games? I think that statement needs a source supporting it. All records listed Frank Bizzoni as American because they're all dated before the discoveries made in 2009. The Historical Dictionary of the Olympic Movement [1] (dated 2011) states "In 2009, Olympic historians discovered that Olympic cyclist Frank Bizzoni was still an Italian citizen when he competed in 1904." Can you find any source more recent than that? I think we've got plenty of evidences to believe this book [2] has a solid background. According to the book profile, Jeroen Heijmans, co-author of the book, is a member of the International Society of Olympic Historians. Furthermore, the site you brought to support Italy's absence has no credit to make serious claims. The website itself states on its homepage "This is no official Website. It is a private initiative."

Ranking

Why Italy is ranked #6? Italy earned 198 gold medals but China 201 as the closing of London 2012. 189.122.108.150 (talk) 03:45, 31 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
