Sitar

I added it to the instruments section. He played sitar on "Pretty Tied Up" by Guns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wolfinator-x (talkcontribs) 23:27, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Songwriting contributions

All comments about Izzy's role as a songwriter in Guns n Roses have been removed I see. I think that the issue should be mentioned however, as he was the band's second most important songwriter (after Rose), and because of the simple observation that after his departure the band has released no original material. The infamous "Hell Tour" that took them up along the US east coast to Seattle...

Umm... Isn't Seattle on the West coast?

Um... is there a fucking reason there's an apostrophe after this guy's name?

Yes there is a "fucking". --80.186.67.158 18:59, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

like if you hav "fuckin'", there's a reasong for the '

Having found no reason (or evidence that he used it that way), I've moved it back. (For instance, All Music Guide omits the apostrophe.) If you have a citation for the apostrophe spelling, please note it here. — mendel 01:34, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

--- Yeh there's no apostrophe. Glad to see its sorted now anyway. britania101

On the artist's album: no apostrophe. On Guns' album: apostrophe. What to do? Does anyone know Izzy personally? Does anyone have his ID card? --Fireblues 22:25, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Classics

I'm removing the following line, "Indeed, there are few classic "Guns" tracks that are not at the very least co-written by Izzy.", because it's not true. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.191.85.179 (talk) 22:24, 16 February 2007 (UTC).

Hey guys in the line:

As with fellow former member of Guns N' Roses, Matt Sorum, it appears that Stradlin and Axl Rose have repaired their fractured friendship, as it was reported that Rose attended a birthday party held for Stradlin in New York. A brief report on this can be found at [1]

the link at the end it broken, can someone either resource it, ot remove the line?
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver And The Vandal Watchman (Talk) 20:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC) they, still do some writing but they not as good as they use to be so remember that doum @#$#%$%$

I've removed the Myspace link, since it really doesn't have much to do with Izzy at all except for a very brief mention that he's on the label. It's just a waste of a link at the moment. hellboy 02:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Izzy's Family

I already know that Izzy is currently married to his wife Aneka. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if they both have any children together?

Notable Guitars

Izzy Often Used ES-335's, it shoul be mentioned under notable guitars —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.238.43 (talk) 02:26, 31 July 2008 (UTC) What about Izzy's Black Les Paul custom? It was one of his main guitars —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.158.86.110 (talk) 16:43, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Izzy used the ES - 175 and Telecaster a lot, but he used many different kind of f - holes, I think they were Byrdlands. He has also used a black Les Paul custom in many videos and for the Use Your Illusion albums. I never saw him play an ES - 175 after the AFD tour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.158.84.5 (talk) 05:14, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Contradiction?

What's the contradiction tag all about? Please clarify, otherwise its "tongue and cheek" vandalism (though cute) and should be removed. --Trippz (talk) 07:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what it's about but if I could take a guess. "switched to the guitar... He packed his drum set into his car and set off for... First band he played guitar in"

I see a few possibilities

.Izzy switched to the guitar later than this artical says .Izzy also brought his guitar .Izzy bought a guitar in LA (who knows why he left his first or brought his drum set?) .Izzy never brought his drum set

shouldn't we mention something? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.228.195.160 (talk) 19:50, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Frankly, the whole article is a mess - with unsourced quotations and statements that show POV tendencies almost throughout. Can someone with knowledge of the subject matter, and more than basic Wiki editing skills, please try to start to sort this out. It is the kind of poorly written article that gets Wikipedia a bad name. Thank you,

Meaning of his name?

Thought I'd swing by and see if there's any interpretation behind his name. I've always wondered. "Is he" or "Easy", can't decide. Or maybe neither. Or maybe both. If anyone knows, I'd love to read about it... and of course, it'd be good stuff for the article. Thanks. I'll keep this page on my watchlist for a few weeks; if nothing, just contact me on my talk page, which would be nice. : ) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 07:23, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

He's never explained his stage name, so it can't be added into the article. "Izzy" is a nickname he's had since high school, according to Axl Rose. At one point he went by "Izzy Bell", an obvious play on his surname Isbell. My personal interpretation of "Izzy Stradlin" is "Is she straddling?", i.e. a reference to woman on top. (It really sounds more like "Is he straddling?", but I've never read anything about him being gay.) Long story short: we don't know. Cheers, Prayer for the wild at heart (talk) 08:08, 4 June 2011 (UTC).
Hey, thanks for the super fast reply! I figured it was a sexual reference, but I didn't realize the "Izzy" part had a longer history than the "Stradlin" part. Cool beans. I also figured if there was something reliable on his name, it'd be in the article already, but one never knows. Thanks! – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 08:14, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm Izzy's Korean Fan. I wonder how can I do this however, according to the interview with i-tunes, Izzy said, his family name is Isbell, so his nickname at high school was Izzy. He said, maybe his uncles had the same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.234.40.94 (talkcontribs)

If you have a link to the interview, feel free to add it to the article. Prayer for the wild at heart (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Izzy comes from his surname, Isbell. He's had that nickname since early childhood. Stradlin is a wrong spelling of ”straddling” (so, yeah, it actually is a sexual reference). It all started because he went by the name ”Izzy Stranded” in around 1982 or '83. He called himself that because he was stranded in Los Angeles. He changed it to Stradlin shortly after. Auryn-Ouroboros (talk) 17:05, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Izzy did play the occasional solo for the guns

Should it not be mentioned that especially on their earlier songs Izzy did occasionally play a solo on guns n roses songs? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.6.108.86 (talk) 22:59, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

GNR founder

User 162.89.0.47 asserts here that Stradlin was not a founding member of Guns N' Roses. I would have thought that being part of the original line-up made him a founding member, but maybe I'm wrong. Thoughts? Prayer for the wild at heart (talk) 13:55, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

I would say yeah he is, founding members and original members tend to go hand-in-hand don't they? Though it is hard to say really who or how the band formed at all. I've seen various explanations as to how Guns N' Roses formed; Axl Rose and Tracii Guns formed them by combining their bands (Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns) thus meaning it was Axl and Tracii who were the founders; Hollywood Rose reformed (post-Slash & Adler lineup) during which Guns eventually replaced original member Chris Weber and the lineup included Beich and Gardner and they were later renamed Guns N' Roses by Axl (not anyone else), or simply Axl formed the group himself. No real definitive explanation =\ HrZ (talk) 14:11, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, their early history is pretty hazy. From what I've read in old interviews the Axl & Tracii scenario seems the most likely, but as you say there's no definite answer. Still, I agree that Izzy should be considered a founding member; he played at their first gig and he was very instrumental in their early look and sound. Let's see if 162.89.0.47 deigns to explain his position. Prayer for the wild at heart (talk) 14:35, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Plays Ass

Did you notice that Izzy Stradlin also plays ass, as his infobox says? =D I'd change it, but I only know rudimentary Wikipedia editing, and I might break something. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.76.189.254 (talk) 14:25, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

I think that was meant to read "plays with his ass." Or perhaps "plays like an ass"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.187.74.68 (talk) 13:08, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
