As JPW became an American citizen (according to the Gale biography), I have slightly amended the description in the lead, and have presumed to alter the spelling to US English - but am quite prepared to be told I'm wrong. I always find it awkward to describe a person as an American when he was born and educated outside the US. In fact, Wearing only moved here in 1974, when he was about 30 years old. I suppose you're right though. Heavens: can you tell when he was born? I'd guess 1945, based on the year when he got his BA.... -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:33, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
