why have the title as "Jack the Lad Swing" I know that's what JLS stands for but EVERYBODY knows them just as 'JLS'. I get the impression someone's showing off by putting Jack The Lad Swing as the title, like saying "I know their name. I'm special." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.96.140 (talk) 19:07, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Because the article is written for everyone, not just people who know what JLS stands for. I didn't know what JLS stood for. I also suspect that there are other things with the acronym "JLS", so using the full name neatly avoids a disambiguation. Cheers, This flag once was redpropagandadeeds 19:10, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
The band's name is JLS, not Jack the Lad Swing. That's what it stands for, but it's not the band's name. The page should be moved to JLS (band). anemoneprojectors 11:44, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think it was decided on the deletion discussion page that 'Jack the Lad Swing' would be a good title. Personally, I like the title as it is now; I hate using those brackets if it can be avoided. Pyrrhus16 12:37, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
But they're called JLS, not Jack the Lad Swing. We shouldn't use the wrong name just because you don't like disambiguation. anemoneprojectors 14:42, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Until there's been explicit confirmation that they're not called 'Jack the Lad Swing', then I think it should remain. From what I've seen, Jack the Lad Swing is their title and 'JLS' is only an abbreviation of their full name. Like when Michael Jackson is referred to as 'MJ'. Pyrrhus16 16:23, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure if they were called Jack the Lad Swing, they'd have been called that all the way through The X Factor. The only time it was mentioned was when they were asked what JLS stands for. What have you seen that I haven't? anemoneprojectors 18:28, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
The sources that I have seen suggest that Jack the Lad Swing is their full title, with JLS merely being an abbreviation. Until there is a source denouncing that, then I think the title should stay as it is. Pyrrhus16 18:54, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
What sources? Also, the article says "Jack the Lad Swing, more commonly known as JLS". Wikipedia says we should use the most common name for article titles. See WP:NCCN and WP:NCON. I think most people would expect to find the article at JLS (band) as well. anemoneprojectors 19:47, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The page was moved by someone who obviously agrees with me, but moved back again due to no consensus. Can we try to reach one? AnemoneProjectors (what?) 15:13, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I guess we can hold a three day straw poll. After three days, the outcome will be revealed. If it's a tie, I will concede defeat and move the page. This all sounds rather dramatic but it should be fun, lol. The !voting begins... now! No canvassing, lol. :) Pyrrhus16 15:31, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Move the title to JLS (band)

Keep the title as Jack the Lad Swing

Neutral

This reference uses Jack the Lad Swing. Many sources will refer to them as 'JLS', but that doesn't mean it's their full title. Pyrrhus16 17:48, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cool, thanks. My preference is for the common title, which I should probably have stated earlier. Deciding which of the two is more common is likely to be... interesting ;-) I'll have a root around Google and see what pops up. Given that when they first auditioned they were asked "Who are you?" and they replied "JLS." we can say that is their name.86.133.181.150 (talk) 14:49, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think the dispute ended the minute they released a single under the name JLS. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

After all this rubbish if you just search JLS and look at their offcial site on google the site title is "Jack The Lad Swing" so we should of kept it to what it originally was it was only changed because of the little fan girls thinking their right :O —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.3.133.79 (talk) 01:24, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't see the point in bringing this up again, but a) they release all their material as JLS, and b) everyone knows them as JLS. See WP:COMMONNAME. Just because that's what JLS stands for doesn't make it their name. AnemoneProjectors 01:28, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Not only that, but the article could do with some referencing to support some of the claims. Whole sections in some cases read like they are a collection of random "facts" of dubious origin. Orphaned references in JLS

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of JLS's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

On hiatus?

edit

In the infobox and under Jukebox, there is a statement that saids JLS is going on a year long hiatus to focus on solo projects. I googled this information and I couldn't find a source to back this statement up. If this is true, please provide a citation to a reliable website stating JLS is on hiatus. If no citation can be found, I request all hiatus statements be removed from this article because I believe this statement is false because JLS will be doing a summer tour together through Septemeber. Thank you. 66.235.48.124 (talk) 00:08, 24 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Farming career of one of the members

edit

Should it not be mentioned in the article that one of the members, as emphasised on Countryfile on April 14 2014, is thinking of going into a career in farming? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 14:56, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I could be wrong but I think that the member in question is J.B. Gill - if any one knows about any agricultural work that he has done, it could help to expand the article. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 23:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes it's JB. According to this week's Heat, he has a ten-acre chicken farm in Kent and has bought a deer farm in Scotland. –AnemoneProjectors13:04, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

When do they actually split?

edit

They're currently on This Morning, their last TV interview, and said that their last ever performance will be at the O2. I see from the O2's website that they're performing there on 22 December. So is this their last performance? Do they officially split on that day? –AnemoneProjectors11:52, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Clarification

edit

I am writing to this page regarding the lead sentence of the article.

Shouldn't we write 'are' instead of 'were' in the lead sentence as it is possible for all 4 members to re-unite and start recording music again or have I been mis-understood?

86.152.141.191 (talk) 10:41, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think the word 'were' is used for bands not active at the moment (like JLS who are currently inactive). You (86.152.141.191) were wise to talk this through and 'were' is preferred in the lead sentence for now. Iggy (talk) 22:13, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
