Where is the source that KLM uses JP8+100 in it's boeing fleet? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noserider (talkcontribs) 09:47, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removed ridiculous cut'n'paste of ATV sales literature. WTF was this doing here anyway? Does Wikipedia need a smug quote from the managing director of a company making ATVs on a page about Jet fuel? Puhleese. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.6.43.59 (talk) 16:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

A temperature change of 100F is not the same as a temperature of 100F. This is the reason for changing from ~38C to 55.5C. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.150.121.88 (talk) 23:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This must have gotten changed back (or you didn't edit?) because I just edited from 38 to 56C for the delta. Joe1234x123 (talk) 19:32, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what is meant by "specified in 1990 by the U.S. government." but we started using JP-8 in the US Army unit I was in at Ft. Bliss (B Btry 3/43 ADA Patriot) in 1987 or early 1988 in all diesel engine equipment; generators, turbine generators, HEMTT's, GM CUCV's, 5 ton trucks, as well as duece and a halfs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ftbliss (talkcontribs) 07:07, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand this sentence under Diesel Problems: ″When used in highly turbocharged diesel engines with the corresponding low compression ratio (e.g. 14:1 or lower), JP-8 causes troubles during cold start and idling due to low compression temperatures and subsequent ignition delay because the cetane index is not specified in MIL-DTL-83133G to 40 or higher." Does this mean that cetane index IS specified to 40 or higher somewhere else? Or implying that a cetane index requirement of ≥40 would prevent any cold start and idling problems? If it is spec'd somewhere else, please add it. If not, would be best to remove "to 40 or higher" from the sentence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joe1234x123 (talkcontribs) 19:37, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

"PIE"?

Is sulfur here a problem or being used as "lubricant" ?

edit

Sorry but even with my relatively decent english language skills I'm not enough of a jet fuel engineer to understand fully this passage:

"Another problem in diesel engines can be the increased wear in outlet valve seats in the cylinder heads, because a minimum content of sulfur is not specified in MIL-DTL-83133G. Sulfur in fuels contributes normally to build up damping soot layers in these valve seats. According to the notes in this standard it is intended to install a value for the cetane index in one of the next releases."

Does "damping soot layers" mean that sulfur has a beneficial effect on the engine, as in lubrication or does this mean that sulfur has an adverse effect on the engines? Thanks. 84.215.32.86 (talk) 14:00, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Valve seat wear has been eliminated on 2007+ Diesel engines the same way they were on Leaded Gasoline Engines. -The US Military never had issues on combat ready diesel vehicles running JP8. 1993 HMMUV Technical Manual states JP8 may be used when #2 Diesel is not available. Even some vehicles, like the M52 and M55 were Multi Fuel, and could run on MoGas, Diesel, JP4,JP5,JP8, A,A-1. *source USAF Vehicle Control Officer, (1996-2000) sourcing Technical Manuals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tluttrell (talkcontribs) 02:43, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on JP-8. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
