Replace text on left with text on right. Add (non-admin closure)}}
- Jack Flanagan (politician) → Jack Flanagan (New Hampshire politician)
- Jack Flanagan → Jack Flanagan (Australian politician)
– The rationale here is that newly-AfC'd Jack Flanagan (politician) of New Hampshire, and extant Jack Flanagan the deceased politician of Australia, need article-titles that properly disambiguate them from each other.
Also recommended:
- please leave behind a redirect from Jack Flanagan (politician) to Jack Flanagan (New Hampshire politician) , in case existing wikilinks or external links use that
- please leave behind a redirect from Jack Flanagan to Jack Flanagan (Australian politician) , since quite possibly existing wikilinks or external links use that
List of existing stuff:
- John_Flanagan, disambig-page, currently bluelinks 2 of the 3 articles (not yet the newly-created one)
- Jack Flanagan (aka John), (1888–????), Australian politician, deceased
- Jack Flanagan (politician) (full legal name unknown), (????–present), New Hampshire politician, alive
- Jack Flanagan (footballer) (aka John), (1902–1989), English footballer, deceased
In these pagemoves, note that I'm leaving the 'default' meaning of what wikipedia-article the readership sees when they pump 'Jack Flanagan' into a wikipedia search, as the Australian politician like it has been for some time -- on the grounds that it might be the case that they-the-readership are still wanting the Australian as the most commonly-intended 'Jack Flanagan' of the three options. Per WP:NORUSH, methinks we might as well leave Jack Flanagan as a redirect to the Australian, for the moment. Please leave a note on my usertalk, if my double-page-move-request is unclear. Thanks, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 09:03, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
thrice Flanagan , phase deux
editOther optional actions, that I'm happy to do myself:
- add hatnotes to Jack Flanagan (footballer)
- expand hatnote of Jack Flanagan (Australian politician)
- add Jack Flanagan (politician) (of New Hampshire) to the John Flanagan disambig-page, joining the two above which are already listed
- NOT yet turning the Jack Flanagan freshly-pagemoved-into-a-redirect entry, into instead a disambig page, for the three Jack Flanagan articles... defer that step into the future methinks (though I won't complain if somebody does it now)
Although I cannot make the pagemoves, I can do these ones. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 09:03, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Comment - this is all pretty workaday stuff. 75.108.94.227 have you considered registering for an account so you can do simple jobs like this WP:MOVE yourself? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:27, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I've considered it. Instead, I've decided to remain an anon, and advocate for changing the restrictions imposed on WP:ANYONE being able to perform workaday edits: creating articles, pagemoves, creating redirects, editing mainspace without needing {{edit_request}}, posting URLs without going through CAPTCHA, blanking a promotional-spamvert-userpage without getting stopped by the abuse-filters which only apply to anons, and so on and so forth. Worst of the worst is not having a watchlist, of course... so I thank you for pinging my usertalk, to nudge me to reply here. :-) Anyways, ping User:In ictu oculi, if you have a few minutes to do the pagemoves, I'd appreciate it, there are redlinks in mainspace at Endorsements_for_the_Republican_Party_presidential_primaries,_2016 and at the hundred-or-so pages which use Template:New Hampshire House of Representatives ... or were, it looks like User:Ken Gallager has just tweaked the template to point at Jack Flanagan (politician). 75.108.94.227 (talk) 13:36, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Support - Definitely "New Hampshire politician" for US Jack Flanagan. What about changing "Australian politician" to "New South Wales politician" to follow the same style, as Aus. Jack Flanagan was likewise a state legislator? I'll support sticking with "Australian" as well, either way is fine. --Ken Gallager (talk) 13:44, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- I went ahead and changed NH Flanagan but will check back here to see if there are any objections to moving NSW Flanagan to Jack Flanagan (New South Wales politician). --Ken Gallager (talk) 13:54, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- 75.108.94.227 okay, I'll do it. I don't think there's a need to clog the RM backlog with this as it doesn't look controversial. You could try using the Auto request template at the head of WP:RM rather than a full RM In ictu oculi (talk) 16:20, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks, appreciated. Good idea, to point both the 'old' redirects straight to the disambig-page rather than to the newly-pagemoved-individual-articles, wish I had thought to suggest that. :-) p.s. As for the move being non-controversial, I didn't think there was going to be a controversy about moving the NH guy, but did not want to suggest moving the NSW guy off of the Jack Flanagan title without some brief discussion, since in some cases there is precedent for having the "main" topic that the readership is likely to be seeking, occupy that top-level-title-spot, and use hatnotes saying 'for other uses see ThisDisambigPageOverHere' type of thing. The NH politician has been in office five years, but the NSW guy might be more famous still; I've never heard of either one before this year, myself. Anyways, I have updated the hatnotes for all three of the Jack-Flanagan-articles, and you already added the 3rd name to the disambig-page, so most of the work is done. I'll scan the what-links-here stuff, to see if there are any double-redirects that need upgrading to match the new title-infrastructure, too. Thanks for the help, talk to you later, 75.108.94.227 (talk) 21:17, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
