Identification
editWhat is currently said in the article about the father is problematic. What is said in the History of Parliament[1] is in direct contradiction. Charles Matthews (talk) 17:30, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Charles Matthews: Spent a bit of time reading through this and trying to disentangle the sources today - looks like "Jack O'Newbury" was traditionally thought to refer to the first John (died 1520), per HoP and the old DNB, but the ODNB suggests it was probably the second John (died 1557). Purely on the grounds of it being twenty years more recent than HoP, I think it seems reasonable to go with the ODNB identification. Andrew Gray (talk) 18:07, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Andrew Gray: Fair enough. Much as I love HoP, their reluctance to update is a blemish. Charles Matthews (talk) 18:10, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
