editDoesn't the japanese garden date back to the fair, and what about the victory statue in the south west corner of the park?
Lunchboxhero 18:01, Apr 13, 2004 (UTC)

I don't believe the present Japanese garden is the same garden that was at the World's Fair.
For the victory statue, do you mean the giant gilded woman? That statue's official name is Republic. It is a replica, made in the 1920's. The original was even larger, but was not gilded.
Jgarden describes a certain level of continuity between the Osaka garden and the present Japanese garden. The Osaka garden is in the same place as the present Japanese garden, but it of course is very different. What do you think?

If you think that we should mention Osaka Garden as being another survivor from the World's Fair, but now I will change the article. I was just going by the usual thing you are told - that the MSI is the only remnant from the World's Fair.
Parakeets
editLest anybody think I'm kidding about the feral parakeets, it's true; I didn't believe it either until I saw them myself the other day. They're bright green and red, and look like they'd be more at home in Brazil than Chicago. QuartierLatin 1968 18:18, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
Talk is cheep. :) Got any photos? Wahkeenah 18:46, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
- I'll work on it! I've got a disposable camera, and I walk through there every day. I'll keep my eyes open for you. :-) QuartierLatin 1968 18:48, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
- Wait, never mind. Other people on the web have had this thought already: [1] [2] [3] I guess they're not really red -- I thought they had splotches of red around their faces, but the ones in these photos just seem green, white, and yellow. QuartierLatin 1968 18:59, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
Awesome! I think you should put the second of the three links right after your comment in the article, given that it has the most photos... or maybe at the end with any external links. Wahkeenah 19:16, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
NPOV in "Intervening Years" section
editAdded an NPOV template to the Intervening Years section. There are a couple of comments that seem to indicate a resentment of official handling of the park. I don't know enough about the topic to know if the emotion is warranted, but I'd at least like sources for the claims (see especially the bit about the repair of the Osaka Garden). Starryharlequin 05:17, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
There are many conflicting dates given to the destruction of the Ho-o-den on Wooden Island. Thus, the blame cannot just be placed on two youths.
Contradict - Mary or Andrew?
editIs the park named after Mary Jackson, the donor of the land, or President Andrew Jackson, her cousin? I would like to see an older source, contemporary with the naming if possible. The Chicago Park District is not always to be believed. Speciate 00:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Copyright concerns
editPlease compare the section on the worlds fair to the history section at http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks/jackson-park/. There's considerable overlap in the text. Phiwum (talk) 14:00, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
I ran [Copyvio Detector] against the article and it came back 23% and less for all referenced pages. I will add some print references to the article today and that should solve this problem. TeriEmbrey (talk) 15:34, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Controversy over Presidential Center is not mentioned
editThe Obama Presidential Center (not a library) issue is described without mentioning the controversy in selecting one of three possible locations, or the law suits still being filed by the People for Parks, see here. The text here makes it seem there was no community involvement and no other sites considered, when there were both, and an extensive public discussion with law suits filed. It took years. - - Prairieplant (talk) 13:02, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
