Notable faculty members should include current faculty members unless otherwise noted. For example, Gingold was removed because he has long since died, Tozzi because he has retired, and Carment Tellez does not merit a mention as being notable. Perhaps a list of previous notable faculty could be made to allow mention of previous esteemed members.

In response to the above: I just (re-) added Gingold before I saw this note. I would politely disagree with this note's anonymous author, as the article specifically says "past and present," and the roster of illustrious musicians on the faculty is a large part of what made the School of Music such an outstanding educational institution. Josef Gingold is by any measure one of the most important violin teachers in the United States at any period, and his long tenure at IU is something noteworthy. Harvey Phillips is of possibly even greater importance relative to his instrument.

It seems to me that a list of noteworthy past instructors at the SoM is of greater value than a list of current ones, as the latter can be easily looked up at music.indiana.edu (and it is in flux anyway, requiring constant updating to stay current).

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Citing

As this article grows, it is necessary that contributors cite their sources when making claims like "the acceptance rate was 12 percent." According to JSoM's website, the acceptance rate for undergraduate students is about 25 percent, and it is about 33 percent for graduate students. If you have doubts about this, please see the FAQ section of JSoM's website, a link to which is posted below.

Furthermore, it is inappropriate to start the article with the statement "The Jacobs School of Music is considered to be one of the best music schools in the world." While this would certainly be considered true by most people, it is important that this article remain neutral. Right now, it is overly obvious that editors like "IKnowthegods" are either students of the school, or have some other bias in the favor of JSoM. When editing this article, please keep these things in mind, and know that such biased edits will be undone as is only fair.

NPOV

"It is considered one of the best music institutions in the world" is highly unnencyclopedic and should not be on an article. I invite the editors who posted the claims of prestige and greatnest (even when well sourced), to visit the article about other conservatoires such as London's Royal Academy of Music, Juilliard School in NY and Conservatoire de Paris (note how, although also often refered as "prestigious" and "great", their articles don't make claims of greatness and prestige). Prospectus/viewbook or article?

This article gives information not relevant for an encyclopedic article. For example: the comprehensive list of the degrees granted and majors, the description of all the choirs, information about admissions. Let’s be serious: this info should not be here (or at least not as it is presented now). Thank you.--Karljoos (talk) 17:50, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree: this is information that can be found on the web site of the School of Music. What's needed is a more detailed history of the school itself. It is absurd that Dean Bain and Dean Webb aren't even mentioned in this article!
