The article was written without any sections. So broke article into sections and expanded by adding some related materials.(Nelatan (talk) 19:52, 27 September 2008 (UTC))
Cause of death not stated
editIf he were younger the media would state the cause of death or at least try to determine it. Nonetheless, there are many people in their 90's who go to the gym.64.203.8.157 (talk) 21:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Wife
editWhy is the article written like his wife was his daughter? I'm not quite sure how to show it, but that formatting definitely doesn't seem right to me. panth0r (talk) 05:31, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Jean Luc Picard
editis the star fleet captain named in his honor? 138.162.128.55 (talk) 12:26, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- nope-- after Auguste and Jean Felix Piccard. 108.195.5.113 (talk) 22:03, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
- "According to Star Trek: The Next Generation supervising producer Robert Justman, Captain Picard was named for French oceanographer Jacques Piccard (1922-), who explored the depths of Earth's Marianas Trench aboard the bathyscaph Trieste." I'm inclined to believe him, since Jacques' father and uncle--Auguste and Jean Piccard--were primarily balloonists for most of their lives. It wasn't until later that Auguste Picard spent a lot of time developing the bathyscape, and it was Jacques who eventually piloted the exploration craft and became (along with Lt. Walsh) the first man to "plant his flag" on the unexplored frontier of the deep ocean. His father and uncle were lab-coated academics and pioneers in science, but Jacques was the explorer. Bravo Foxtrot Comes from a prominent family (albeit of Swiss scientists, not French winemakers), explores "the final frontier", "where no man has ever gone before", etc. (talk) 16:10, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- His father Auguste was far from a lab-coated academic, but was a hell of an engineer, and his work is what made his son's triumph possible. He made it to 75,000 ft in a balloon, and himself took an early version of his bathyscaphe to 12,000 ft (a record at that time). He's probably the only guy ever to hold both a balloon altitude and ocean depth record. SBHarris 21:06, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Seems logical to add the Jean-Luc reference to article. Flightsoffancy (talk) 19:42, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
