It's commmon for high performance cars to be limited to 155mph, however the XK8's top speed is actually 156mph, unlimited. I have a link, but it won't wiki cos of the @ symbols:

Although the Jaguar is not as expensive as some hypercars such as the Aston Martin DB7, it does not have the quality and prestige of an Aston. It falls between classes really, being neither a sports car nor a GT. Sales vary sharply across markets too. Here in London it's a common alternative to the ubiquitous Porsche 911, but in other markets it has struggled. akaDruid 10:09, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC) (edit akaDruid 10:14, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC))

I'm not ignoring this, however I'm looking for some more information. The 156 mph I believe only applies to model year 1997 which had an inferior EGR system and electronic control module... I'll get back to you. --Hcheney 02:07, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

About the XK8 being a car which isn't luxurious can be said of the XK8 but it's not valid when the brand Jaguar is the centre of discussion. [Haniff - Malaysia]

  • Calling the DB7 a hypercar is a bit flattering. It was a cheap stop gap to bail AML out.
  • The DB7 is pure carry-over XJS floorpan, even down to the twin rear spring/damper set up but had the rear void bushes rotated round by 90 degrees. The XK8's platform, whilst based on the XJS floorpan, had a different subframe & rear suspension.LewisR 22:48, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Over large wheel arches are apparently, according to some Jaguar staff, due to the car's styling being signed off with the car at the incorrect ride height. When the correct ride height was used many criticized the wheel arches for being too big.LewisR 22:48, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • The V8 engine, AJ26 was launched with nikasil liners which, due to much higher sulphur content in fuel in the '90s led to premature cylinder liner wear. They reverted to cast iron liners but many owners were affected by the earlier engines. All failed items were replaced under warranty.

What happened to the original 1949-1961 XKs?

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but it appears to me that the article gives a false impression of the history of the Jaguar XK. As written, it sounds like the XK series debuted in 1996. Udibi (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I'm posting in response to a request on the Third Opinion page for a neutral viewpoint regarding the appropriateness of the link to the XK8Forum site from this article. I have not edited this article (or any Jaguar-related articles, for that matter), and have no acquaintance with either of the editors involved in the dispute.

The Wikipedia:Manual of Style states that links to foreign-language sites (in this case, non-English sites) should not be used except in limited situations. The XK8Forum link does not appear to meet any of these situations. Therefore, it appears to be inappropriate for the English-language Wikipedia, and I would suggest that it be removed.

It would be wonderful if a French translation of this article could be written in the French version of Wikipedia; the XK8Forum link would then appear to be highly appropriate for that version. Kickaha Ota 22:16, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

In addition to the French forum link removal above, I feel that all forums links should be removed (as I tried with this edit [2]), since per WP:EL forums should generally not be linked to. However I've already edit warred far more than I like here already, so I leave this decision to other future editors --AbsolutDan (talk) 22:57, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

As an XK owner and lover, I feel that these three forums bring huge value to any person wanting to get deeper infos on these cars. Having two english one and one French one is not contradictory to the terms of the Wikipedia rules. French is a language spoken by many people, and many French speaking people look for infos primarily on english forums but are then happy to find also some links in tehir native language. Also, the French forum is teh second most active one after the us forum. Theyse forums are a useful addenda.

If you look at the history of modifications, you'll see that AbsolutDan is just French bashing. He lied to me after I identified him, triyng to say he was French, and afterwards he tries to manipulate by generating a pseudo "third opinion". He is only destroying value and doing nothing positige. Censorship is fun only to people who have nothing else to say. Sad. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.80.247.61 (talkcontribs) .

This is not about any personality conflict; this is about whether a particular piece of information is or is not appropriate for Wikipedia, according to Wikipedia's policies. Wikipedia:External links and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) are very clear; barring unusual circumstances which have not been met here, foreign-language sites should not be linked. The XK8Forum link violates these policies.
Your comments about AbsolutDan and myself violate Wikipedia:Civility and Wikipedia:No personal attacks. This dispute is about Wikipedia policy, not about the users involved. Your comments are highly inappropriate. Kickaha Ota 12:35, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your brutal way of acting and your ruddeness is also against the WP, sorry to be positive about that. Callin me "Buddy" is not nice either. And I do not agree with you on the fact that this finformation is not adequate. Once again, read again the WP: Links to forums, even in foregign language can be allowed if they are useful. As a XK-owner and lover, and as a modest contributor to this page (Silverstone corrections), I estimate that I'm in a better position than you to judge about the relevance of a site. you do say you want to help the WP be better respected, than please analyse first your own attitude and perfect it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.80.247.61 (talkcontribs) .

Please read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) once again. "Webpages in English are highly preferred." Non-English pages are only used "when linking to pages with maps, diagrams, photos, tables"; in other words, when linking to content that even a non-speaker of the language can understand. There is no such need for a link to the non-English forum in this case. I have never called you "Buddy", nor have I said that the information is "not adequate"; I have simply said that it's not appropriate for a link from the English-language Wikipedia. If you wish to assist French speakers, let me once again suggest that you translate this article into French, place it on the French Wikipedia, and link to the French-language forum from there. You have now been warned twice for making personal attacks. Kickaha Ota 15:00, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My dear friend, this is becoming too stupid a game, and I'm going to give you what you wanted. I announce herewith the end of my contributions to this page.

I removed all my add-ons and hope you'll be happy with that.

If not, feel free to do whatever you want I do no more care, after all my life is luckily not bound to what happens to the XK wikipedia pages.

Adieu, Messieurs les censeurs. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.80.247.61 (talkcontribs) .

Units in info boxes.

Why are some of the mark I stats gien in inches first? Its not even all of the MK's stats just some. I reckon they should all be mm (SI Unit) first as all of the MkII's are. (Morcus (talk) 23:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC))Reply

3.5 V8 Engine

edit

I've looked on the UK, US and German sites and can find no evidence of the 3.5l V8 engine being installed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.29.162.166 (talk) 20:21, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Poorly written

edit

Hi,

I'm sorry to have to say this but this article is quite poorly written and does not fully take into account of the full lineage of the Jaguar XK range. Little detail is given about he X100 and is more given towards the later model. In some areas, it reads like a sales brochure, with mininmal citations. Please note this is not a personal attack but an observation. I will try to put together a university accepted article that will hopefully clear some of these issues up. Please note, this may take time as I have many other academic committments. I shall also be using some of my contacts at Jaguar to help clear up any mistakes that could be included in this article. 94.169.13.20 (talk) 03:41, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your imput. I'm currently working on expanding this article and many more Jaguar models. You have contacts at Jaguar? I am Jaguar! Jaguar 19:30, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
