It seems pretty clear that Allen worked for John Tallis, though the image link here from Battle of Cape Celidonia is apparently misconceived (the image description page has it wrong, it seems, in that Rapkin engraved the maps, Allen illustrations in the atlas from which this is taken). The PDF ext lk has more about Allen's background; the ODNB updated article isn't that good in this case. Charles Matthews (talk) 11:31, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
