Answer, Question, Comment
editFirst of all, Coburn is one of the coolest guys of his generation and his bio should filled out here in much greater detail. Next, yes, utterly crippling arthritis per a TV documentary I just saw last night. Cite: his family. He apparently got great relief from MSM, and was able to work again. Question to anyone interested: does anyone have personal experiences to share as to Coburn in the 1960s and 70s. If so, please post. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.243.196.117 (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
If anyone would, here's the article for the television series of Darkroom that can certainly do with improving. DrWho42 22:29, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Waterhole # 3?
editI believe Coburn was also the star in "Waterhole #3." RobertTaylor21 17:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Hand deformity?
editWhile watching Maverick (1994), I noticed that his hands seem to have problems. His fingers were always together and leaned outward. Does anyone know if this was caused by the RA? Or was it something else? --RubyTuesday425 (talk) 22:21, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- RA attacks the smaller joints (fingers, hands, wrists, ankles, feet, toes) 1st. I've got a friend with RA who's had more than 20 surgical procedures on those joints, with titanium joint replacements & tendon repairs, & she tries to hide her hands as much as possible because they do look deformed. It's quite possible that Coburn suffered a degree of deformity in his fingers, hands, &/or wrists due to RA. Don't, however, believe for a minute that he was *cured* from taking MSM. The usual treatment for severe RA is akin to having chemotherapy done (methotrexate injections). There can be periods of remission in RA (& other autoimmune disorders), where it temporarily halts its destructive process....but it always comes back eventually. There's degrees of impairment in OA (osteoarthritis, another autoimmune disorder) as well. Some people have milder, slower joint deterioration with less pain & less mobility impairment, & some get it fast & furious to the point where it becomes crippling. He may have had a much milder case of it than my friend does. ScarletRibbons (talk) 09:37, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
Cars
editSome mention should be made of his cars.
James Coburn’s Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder, Chassis #2377 GT, was sold at auction for $10,894,900. The previous record was set in 1990 when Sotheby's sold a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO racing car for $10,756,000.
It was completed on March 5th 1961 and sold new to its first owner Fredy Damman. This front-engine V-12 Ferrari was the thirteenth of just fifty-six built.
Steve McQueen already owned a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso Chassis #4891 Engine #4891, 350 were made, built on the Ferrari 250 GT SWB (short wheelbase) chassis. Steve’s was auctioned off at $2.31 million.
James Coburn of Hollywood, California, bought the convertible second-hand in 1964, shortly after completing "The Great Escape." Throughout Coburn’s ownership, he repainted the vehicle three times, first in dark blue, followed by silver and finally burgundy. The car appeared on the auction block in its original Nero black. James sold the car in 1987.-oo0(GoldTrader)0oo- (talk) 10:17, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

"Streak" under Television Filmography?
editI noticed that on 11 November 2018 user TokyoTranslator3211 added the TV show Streak under Coburn's filmography. I found it odd that a show that's listed with 450 episodes doesn't have a Wikipedia entry and after a little googling, I couldn't find any record of the show. Is this something worth reviewing? - Looks like a fake/hoax entry. I've removed it from the table. Archer1234 (talk) 15:02, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Corburn's Sufi connections
editI've added a recent biography to the article that may yield additional material:
- Coburn, Robyn L (5 April 2022). Dervish Dust: The Life and Words of James Coburn. Potomac Books, Inc. ISBN 978-1640124059 (Hardcover), ASIN B08ZJ8YS2D (Kindle)
This shows Coburn's interest in Sufi mysticism and his relationship with Idries Shah, author of many books, including The Sufis, and Shah's father, the Sirdar Ikbal Ali Shah. Regarding the book title, a Sufi is one who has walked the path; a Dervish is still learning. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 08:36, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
