The article claims that Curtiss's remains were lost when Chicago converted City Cemetery to Lincoln Park, but no reference is given. Can anyone provide a reference?Sam Paris (talk) 14:22, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone know where the birth date of April 7, 1803 comes from? The CPL page gives that date, I know, but the Kimball family history (Thanks to Shsilver for cleaning up the reference!) gives his birth date as March 9, 1806, in Weathersfield (sic) Connecticut. The Wethersfield vital records at http://www.rays-place.com/town/wethersfield/page-10.htm show a James Curtiss born on 3/9/1806, but no one of that name born in 1803.

Also, Andreas' book says that Curtiss came from New York, but his Chicago Press and Tribune obituary (11/4/1859, available at the CPL site if you have a Chicago library card) makes no mention of New York, saying instead that he was a printer's apprentice in Philadelphia before moving to Eastport, Maine, where he edited the Northern Light. Sadly, the Trib obit makes no mention of his birth date, and the last digit of his birth year is illegible.

I'm inclined to change the New York origin to match the obit, using that a reference, but I want more confirmation on the birth date before I change it. Thoughts? Sam Paris (talk) 11:47, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

@Sam Paris: You are correct that the James Curtiss entry doesn't cite Wikipedia, but some of the book's other biographies do. It also appears to be self-published, and on the basis of its copyediting alone, I'd say the perfection of its cromulence is somewhat dubitable. Nick Number (talk) 17:06, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
