editIs there a chance Fitzmaurice's achievements/failures are made more clear?
- I can't see any achievements.78.17.58.240 (talk) 21:39, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Terrible mistake
editHugh O'Neill may have been influenced by the FitzMaurice revolts, setting an example for his own major revolt in the 1590s. He is regarded by some as the man the Geraldines ought to have chosen to lead them if they were to resist the Protestant reformation.
Just one example of how badly this is written. O'Neill was in the army fighting in Desmond, and was pretending to be protestant at this time. Later on he pretended to be a Catholic. Neither he nor Fitzmaurice were religious in any sense, just old style warlords.78.17.58.240 (talk) 21:39, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- I think that's an example of edit creep - the second sentence written in 2005 originally had Fitzmaurice himself as the subject, and was lifted from the old DNB article. Shtove 00:00, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Arms showing black saltire
edit@Joefitzer: Dear Joefitzer, thank you for your valuable contributions to many of the Geraldine biographies. On 17:23 18 December 2020 you added a coat of arms showing a black saltire on a white ground (i.e. "Argent, a saltire sable") and the caption "Earl of Kerry" to the top of the infobox of the present article, where it still remains today. I fail to understand. James fitz Maurice, the subject of the present article, was no Earl of Kerry. He was a son of Maurice fitz John FitzGerald of Totane, a brother of James FitzGerald, 13th Earl of Desmond. He was no noble and I wonder whether he was an armiger and whether a coat of arms should be displayed. Besides, the Desmond coat of arms would be "Ermine, a saltire gules", according to Burke 1866 ("Erm., a saltier gu."). With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 11:13, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
Change citation style
editDear wikipedians User:Shtove, User:Mannanan51, User:Manannan67, User:Jdorney, User_talk:K1ngstowngalway1, User:Rye 212, User:Joefitzer, User:Camboxer, User:Pageturners. You are the article's major contributors. It is rated Start (but also B?) and has 6 citations of the style <ref></ref>. I would like to extend the article and change the citation style to use "short" descriptions in the text ({{Sfn}}) and "long" ones using templates (e.g. {{Cite book}}) in a list of sources. As prescribed in WP:CITEVAR, I formally ask your permission. I hope to obtain a sufficient number of permissions, but if nobody replies within a month, I will assume that I can go ahead without further ado.
In hope of further good collaboration, with thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 12:12, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
