I am checking sources to confirm his rank and military unit. He was definitely a Captain in the Tryon County Regiment, but under the name James Johnson. User_Talk:G._Moore 15:37, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

C.L. Hunter says that he was promoted to Colonel. However, there are no records of a Colonel James Johnnston in the North Carolina militia.
