Requested move 1 November 2021
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved.
2 editors support the move. It is unclear whether Joeykai intends to oppose the move or is merely making a comment, but either way, I find a consensus to move. The naming convention explicitly states that (hurdler) is the preferred suffix in this situation.(non-admin closure) Havelock Jones (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
James King (athlete) → James King (hurdler) – per Wikipedia:Naming_conventions (sportspeople)#Athletics (track and field); "To avoid the conflict between general sportspeople and the sport of athletics (track and field), it's best to disambiguate by event category rather than use a generic "(athlete)" suffix. The "(athlete)" handle may denote sportspeople in general" Joeykai (talk) 03:17, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- Do you have another athlete with the same name? Please present it. Without one, this seems WP:CRYSTAL and premature. Trackinfo (talk) 05:15, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- There are several other sportspeople with the same name listed at James King. Joeykai (talk) 02:44, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- I believe you are looking at this from the American perspective. I'm a yank too, but on Wikipedia, they have adopted the global definition of referring to the sport we call track and field as "Athletics." Athletics is the term the Olympics use for the sport. The world governing body recently changed their name to World Athletics. And the participants in the sport are referred to as "athletes." For Mr. King, when there is another potentially notable participant in track and field with the same name, then we should specialize. I don't think we need to rush to preemptively change when there is no reason presented. Trackinfo (talk) 02:56, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

- Support per nom. We usually use the specific event in athletes' names, whether we use the term track and field or athletics (as I would, being British) for the group of events in general. Absolutely no reason not to unless they were notable in more than one event. Just as we usually use "chemist" or "physicist" instead of "scientist". There's no problem with being specific so long as that doesn't end up being overly verbose. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:51, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
